Couldn’t see a thread on this

I’ve seen it heavily advertised

Stars Nicola Walker, a woman whose mid twenties daughter has just shagged her best friend

Anyone going to watch? I love Nicola Walker

I binged it and I’m torn if I want a second season now! I found bits quite fun and ick which is the point I guess but on the whole I think I enjoyed it.

SequinsandSolerosInTheSummertime · 14/06/2026 22:07

Finished.
It was a bit mad, really and a bit soap drama.
I didn't find it particularly funny and I like dark humour.
It had very interesting elements.

  1. Perimenopause/invisibility/recapturing youth/recklessness/selfishness.
  2. Having a male bf hanging/one that got away/taking advantage of passive husband.
  3. Jealousy of daughter/youth/controlling narcissistic tendencies of parents. Addiction. Parentification.
  4. Political correctness. Generation gaps.
Spoilers But I wasn't keen on the Thelma and Louise-esque ending. Elements of War of the Roses, which I never really liked either (or the remake). The Shining element was well done, I guess. And when all the characters are unlikeable or wet or bland, it's a hard watch. You're not actually rooting for anyone.
Middlemarch123 · 14/06/2026 22:29

I really like Nicola Walker, she does subtle and understated so well. But I cringed watching her in this. The screeching, the mannerisms so exaggerated. If there’s a second series I won’t watch it. Ended up not really caring about any of them. It was like a parody of the above mentioned shows. NW is better than this.

FredaMountfitchet · 14/06/2026 22:53

Decidedly odd .
Didn’t rate Nicola Walker in this either .
Trying too hard .

lollypop42 · 14/06/2026 23:30

it’s not very good, i find Nicola Walker is the same in everything she does

bornwithhorns · 14/06/2026 23:57

The shining bit actually made me laugh a lot, can’t see how he wouldn’t of known her growing up so that would make me especially disturbed!
some bits were funny to me , I would watch a second series
have to say I really loved Crosby the dog best lol

pouletvous · 15/06/2026 13:23

totally unbelievable pish

im knocking 50 and would not want to shag Steve. What did the 26 see in that sad old loser?

pouletvous · 15/06/2026 13:23

Hopefully they both die

😂😂😂😂😂

Just finished it. Not sure how I feel. The relationship was grim and i couldn’t see what was attractive about him, he had no personality! The fact that Alice and Steve had slept together previously was also gross.
The fallout was interesting, the impact on Alice’s marriage and her career. The son being affected as he is just starting his first relationship.
The end was bizarre but I guess there was no easy way for them to comeback from this.

BoilingHotand50something · 16/06/2026 11:40

I dunno. I didn’t mind Steve. I probably liked him more when I realised he was the crab in Moana. Which is a bit worrying tbh! Blush

Geeseofbeverlyroad · 16/06/2026 12:49

I'm a massive Flight of the Concords fan so watched for Jermaine. Absolutely missed the mark. He even said in this interview, he didn't get the jokes and thought it might be the British sense of humour. https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2026/jun/05/jemaine-clement-nicola-walker-interview-alice-and-steve-disney

In the meantime, I live in hope that Flight of the Concords for a third series

Middlemarch123 · 16/06/2026 17:22

Don’t know about you lot, but I could have certainly done without Alice’s husbands teacher friend sharing her fantasy about the England squad lining up for her at Wembley! Might be the only time they score though…😉

VivienneDelacroix · 17/06/2026 15:51

Yes, that bit was very odd.

Arran2024 · 19/06/2026 16:44

I enjoyed it and hope there is another series.

I thought that the set up of the daughter and best friend falling in love was really just a plot device to introduce much more interesting themes. I didn't buy the love story or care for them, but it led us to characters grappling with issues which do concern adults passing their prime. And I say that as someone in my 60s.

Steve blows up his career because he wants to impress Alice's friends. Alice is still getting drunk and stoned and her boss doesn't find her behaviour funny.

Don't get me started on Izzy....

MaryBeardsShoes · 20/06/2026 14:31

He’s just not attractive enough for it to work.

MaryBeardsShoes · 20/06/2026 14:32

I don’t necessarily mean physically, more, his character is so weak. And Izzy’s friends are irritating.

pouletvous · 21/06/2026 12:17

MaryBeardsShoes · 20/06/2026 14:31

He’s just not attractive enough for it to work.

Totally agree

nothing attrative about him at all. No charisma, not good looking

MaryBeardsShoes · 21/06/2026 14:47

It’s a very weak show for Nichola Walker who I usually adore.

berlinbaby2025 · 21/06/2026 14:56

It all too much of a stretch for me - the beautiful and intelligent daughter shagging the not that attractive friend of her mum who she’s known most of her life, the friend shagging the woman he’s known since she was a child, and Alice playing all these childish and dastardly games to get back at him. There’s little to zero emotional stakes and I’m surprised this got commissioned.

jay55 · 24/06/2026 10:39

I’ve given up half way through, got to them sabotaging each other at every turn and just couldn’t watch any more.
