Anyone watching? I'm in episode 3.

Excellent so far

Steve Coogan, Tom Burke, Alex Jennings , Charlotte Ritchie amongst a high profile cast.

Steve Coogan is playing a blinder as a handler of the under cover HMRC agents.

Love Tom Burke anyway.

Feels apocryphal.

It’s next on my watch list. I’ve got one more secret service to watch first. Pleased to hear it’s good (so far) 😊

snowibunni · 07/05/2026 21:31

2 more episodes to go . It's excellent

Just started ep 1!

snowibunni · 07/05/2026 23:35

Just finished it.

Well worth a watch even if it's only for the cars and the score!

Just binge watched the whole thing, most unlike me. My word, that was brilliant. I had to keep watching. My only criticism was the lad playing Carter's accent slipping; everything else was great.

Am looking to watch more of stuff written by Neil Forsyth, now. Starting off with 'The Gold', I think.

tennissquare · 09/05/2026 20:42

Really enjoying this, on episode 2. Great cast.

RubyJack · 11/05/2026 06:03

I really liked this.

DJSteves · 11/05/2026 18:26

Episode 1 hooked.

blueskiesandsun · 11/05/2026 19:41

Absolutely loved this. Great show.

IAmKerplunk · 11/05/2026 22:04

Hadn’t heard of it till this thread so thank you. Was looking for something new to watch! Going to start it now.

tennissquare · 11/05/2026 22:09

It’s really great, I’ve finished it now. Best series I’ve watched in ages.

Netaporter · 11/05/2026 22:11

Watched it all over the weekend. Loved it. Same writer as ‘The Gold’ (which I also loved). Highly recommend!

IAmKerplunk · 11/05/2026 22:14

Had not heard of The Gold either! That will be next on my list.

Lavalampbubble · 11/05/2026 22:16

Really enjoyed it, loved the music. I'm not a Steve Coogan fan but he was excellent. Burst out laughing a few times at him.

Italiangreyhound · 11/05/2026 22:16

It's good.

Awesome. About the Brinks Matt gold robbery. BBC iPlayer. Enjoy!

LemograssLollipop · 12/05/2026 00:45

Really great series and it's based on true events. I'm on ep 4 so far.

Steve Coogan is excellent as is Tom Burke. Con O'Neil is in it too.

Highly recommend. Plus all the cars, love seeing the old ones.

LadySpratt · 12/05/2026 07:40

I agree, it’s really good! I wasn’t a fan of Coogan before this but I was pleasantly surprised by him. Burke was fab, even though I couldn’t stop wondering when the next Strike is coming!

Netaporter · 12/05/2026 08:50

From The Times today- warning it does contain spoilers if you haven’t watched the whole series. Also gives details of Guy Stanton’s memoir which the series is devised from.

It's fab and loving the 90s tunes!

IAmKerplunk · 12/05/2026 13:22

Am on episode 4 and loving it! The 90s tunes and the cars! Steve Coogan is fab in this - not normally a fan.

BlueBlueCowWondering · 12/05/2026 19:00

Agree with everyone- it's a gem. Bit of a period piece! 1990

snowibunni · 12/05/2026 19:44

Just ordered the book and read the prologue - I'm hooked!

I know ! I’m loving this for all the right reasons… it’s excellent , but also feeling it’s like watching Strike doing his thing in a different series .

Gloriia · 13/05/2026 07:49

This is quite good, love the soundtrack and all the characters are interesting.

However, they are all so reckless and stupid. I cannot believe it's based on a true story. Why anyone would think inexperienced customs officer were the best candidates for going undercover in such high risk situations is staggering.

They seem to bungle everything from the break in at the drugs premises to leave a listening device (and they couldn't get out again so poor hapless Shaun had to call the electricty company bloke to shut everything down), Shaun then forgetting he was from Crocky not Bootle, their very obvious surveillance sat in parked cars with binoculars. Kate just wandering running the main drug blokes apartment Confused. I know it was a last minute training thing but even so, all just utterly crazy.

Nice to see terrorist Hakkani from Homeland playing drug dealer Hakan in this.

They were all so absolutely hapless. It is enjoyable, dark and even funny in parts but omg I'm sure there'd have been experienced undercover cops who'd have had a far better idea of these things!
