Looks like this has had mixed reviews. Personally I really enjoyed it. Would love to see a S2 but not sure if it came to a natural end? I thought we’d see Rosie a year later with a wee black haired baby!

Am I really the only one who is interested in talking about this?

I’ve watched it all, yes I enjoyed it and thought the acting very good, but the storyline and ending was a bit predictable, but couldn’t help binge watching all episodes in 2 days.

I loved it.

I was interested how they developed the character of Sam, and you gradually saw his manipulation and control.

Binged it and thought it average.

What cult do you think it's based on? Jehovah's? Brethren? A mish mash of them all?
I'm fascinated by cults and how they use control and fear to sustain themselves, but also how the so successfully manage to lock out the outside world.

I've seen it.
It was ok, could have been better.

It started out strong, but ended up rubbish.

i found the Rosie character really a bit irritating after a bit.

Got confused between Mrs Phillips and Rosies mother.

I think its based on the Plymouth Brethren.

Found the premise interesting, but execution lacking.

Practically: Do they live in their own little village/commune? Do they have their own schools?

I’ve watched five episodes. Considering how many good actors that are in it that it’s so bad.
I couldn’t get over the fact that Rosie would help Issac to leave his wife who had just given birth to their fourth child to go and live with the women he was having an affair with.

I watched it all over the weekend. I kind of enjoyed it, but every single one of them had a secret or was unhinged. I couldn't quite get on board with it.

I thought it was rubbish. I agree that it made no sense that Rosie would encourage her brother in law to abandon his kids but it made even less sense at the end that Sam became leader. Did the police just give up on the hunt for the escaped convicted murderer? Can you imagine?

None of it made sense at the end. I hope they don’t make another series. What a waste of some good talent.

I thought Rosie would have Sans baby. A lot was made of them struggling to get pregnant, were they having anal sex because Sam was gay? What happened to San at the end, did he stay in the commune?

I watched three episodes and I could not watch anymore. I think actors were great but the story was so stereotypical it was really boring.

We have a Plymouth brethren community nearby. They very much keep to themselves. The children attend the local catchment school until P3 and then move onto the brethren school which is further away. They are collected by private bus each day. At school the brethren children eat separately away from everyone else as they can eat with outsiders.
They live in very large detached houses (something to do with not sharing water sources?), all nearby one another but not a commune. The church is gated and the all arrive in identical black or silver mini vans, when church is on some men stand by the gate to let the cars in. I believe they work for a company that sells wooden educational toys. I have no idea how that sustained the nice cars and large houses and women at home all day.

The hall is definitely an actual Plymouth Brethren hall and the Whisky drinking is a big thing in the Brethren but I think it melded some stuff from other cults too as opposed to being a true depiction of just one.

I really enjoyed it.

I enjoyed all the episodes and found it entertaining to a point but lost interest in the last two episodes. I found myself hurrying through them. Rosie, Adam and Sam fell flat for me. Also though there as no way the cops would just give up finding Sam with a few murders under his belt. I was also confused with the tech angle sometimes they seemed to think it was the devil’s work and then other times all the elders or their spouses are suddenly using devices of some kind. I wouldn’t watch a season 2 if there was one.

That's quite true of how cults works in general one rule for the followers,l to exert power and fear, while behind closed doors the leaders pick and choose what they want to do,l to suit themselves, all while holding their community to the highest standards.
