Can anybody recommend some good shows/films, I’m about to buy a subscription.

There's so much to choose from, it depends what you like really! Some I've enjoyed are

The Makanai. Cooking for the Maiko house was a Japanese series I loved. Lots of excellent acting especially the beautiful Ai Hashimoto as a veteran ( but not vetaran as in old) geisha teaching the younger girls.
Midnight diner was another excellent Japanese series. Self contained but sometimes interlinked stories only about 30 min long. About 30 episodes all brilliant.
