I should add I do like RM though. I tried hard not to for ages but he's won me over with his awful concoctions. Not with the shorts though.

Imagine if Ray Mears was your Dad - you'd be sorted for all those pesky camping trips and every survival exercise you could possiblt think of.

He's MUCH better than 'bare bum Grylls' who keeps trying to steal his mantle.

I love Ray too, but I'm with TC - I do wish he would buy the next size up when he goes shorts-shopping.

He's a top man and I would love to have a week trecking through the jungle learning from him. That show where Ray Mears and Ewan McGregor were trekking through the jungle together was hilarious!

But BigGitDad, are your shorts the right size? That's all we're worrying about right now.

i have had this coversation with DH several times - someone really needs to take Ray aside and mention it. He is great though - I love his programs and like the way he has so much respect for the people and places he visits. He doesn't turn up and pretend to know it all which is very refreshing and very unlike.......

Does anyone know if RM is married? I've often wondered what his OH would be like but have never found any info on this aspect of his life.

That is so sad . You're right though - he does sound like a lovely chap. When my DH was much younger he was a spitting image of RM at the same age - DH does NOT wear short shorts though but other than that they have a far bit in common .

I love Ray, he is my absolute hero. My brother is in fact Ray Mears (well he thinks so) He isnt happy if he isnt cooking something wild with herbs on an open fire whilst making a 3 bedroomed house out of twigs and leaves with a knife in hand.

Ray's a legend. I took ds to see him on his talk tour last year and he was fab. Spent ages taking questions from the audience and was an all round lovely bloke. I'm pleased to say he wore proper pants too.
