Anyone watching? I never ever would have recognised Shandi in a million years.

Just started! Used to love ANTM but it’s quite shocking looking back

MrsKeats · 16/02/2026 21:03

It’s shocking what they thought was ok to film/show.

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 16/02/2026 21:18

Ooo need to watch this is it any good? Seen Tyra is on it though it did seem she was part of the problem so be interesting to see her views.

Did watch during lockdown Annalise Dayes commentary on the British Invasion. And watching it back how Ebony was moaned at for not wearing her pigtails all the time.

There was also interviews others did with contestants. Got lost down a rabbit hole.So much drama! And the make overs...a lot seemed to be done on purpose to guess create telly. If you mentioned your hair fears..they became reality.

Watched this earlier after waiting for it to hit Netflix. I suppose you knew it was fashion which is fast paced and judgemental, but I always thought ‘atleast they are coming away with a portfolio’. Genuine shock that most found their portfolios to be completely useless in the real industry so essentially gained next to nothing from being exploited on TV. Also that poor girl who won who then found herself black listed in the industry for being ‘a reality show girl’ and wasn’t given work even though she’d won the contract.

The Shandi story line was awful. What a terrible experience for her which was just filmed the whole way through and they left her crying with no support at all.

I know it was the era of the reality show and all that, but there seemed to be next to no empathy for the people involved. I also didn’t realise how ridiculous the photo shoots were when you take them out of context. In the show, I never questioned it. Weird. Why would anyone want a photo of someone with a cockroach or meat knickers?

Pretty unforgivable that Tyra hasn’t been to see Miss J. Difficult to spin that even with the river of word salad inspirational bollocks that effortlessly flowed out of her mouth during the interview.

Very much of its time but a hard watch.

I’ve listened to the podcast and those girls were total used and left with nothing. Interesting they don’t speak to Adrienne. I know she loathes Tyra and didn’t even really get her prizes if I remember correctly.
Elyse from season one was my favourite.

Good God Tyra talks some shit, she seems to have got even more annoying as time has gone on.

What's the name of the podcast?

I’ll need to watch this - I used to watch ANTM all the time but can imagine it hasn’t aged well!

I always used to feel terrible when they did the makeovers - they’d always give one girl an incredibly drastic haircut that she hated, and inevitably, she’d be voted out within a week, normally because she hadn’t embraced / couldn’t carry off her new look!!

MrsWhites · 17/02/2026 17:22

I watched this yesterday, Tyra did herself no favours - she didn’t take any responsibility for her part in it, she was awful when you look back.

SpryLilacBird · 19/02/2026 00:02

Hi OP,

I just watched it. Tyra absolutely sold her friends out! She should have left when they did, that would have been the decent thing to do. I found Tyra to be totally unlikeable, no sense of awareness or any self-reflection. I wonder if she's ever apologised to any of the models? And not through the documentary, like she did a couple of times, which sounded false to my ears, but actually met them face to face to apologise.

I thought what the documentary did really well was highlight Tyra's hypocrisy without directly calling it out. For example, showing her insisting a contestant had to get a gap in her teeth closed or she'd be eliminated, followed by a few years later insisting another contestant needed to get a gap in her teeth! Also banging on about the weight of a contestant and then years later calling out the media for making comments on her own weight!

I didn't like Nigel's response when they were talking to him about the model who was being touched inappropriately by a male model on her photo shoot in Africa. He seemed so blasé about it. I wanted them to ask him 'don't you have a daughter?'.

Very sad news about Miss Jay, that had me in tears at the end. I also think that Miss Jay absolutely has Tyra's number. He's known her since she was 17 years old and I think he knows exactly who she is.

Just finished watching - how is the situation with Shandi not rape! It was still being minimised.

Very different to how a similar situation was handled on Below Decks, when the film crew intervened.

Tayra is full of bullshit and complete lack of self awareness. Then at the end she waffles on about how owning you shit is how you improve. Hate that she will make money from the documentary!
