The Peep Show

I have got to series 4 on The Peep show. I have enjoyed a lot of it, despite being uncomfortable viewing at times. However, I have got to the episode when Super Hans forced Sophie‘s teenage cousin Barney to perform oral sex on him. This is despite Barney not wanting to and protesting greatly. Surely this theme does not pass as humour? The episode made me feel physically sick and I don’t feel like carrying and watching further episodes of the Peep Show now.
Has anyone else who has watched the peep show have any thoughts on this particular episode?

Yeah it's not a nice episode that. It's the worst one. The premise of the show is that they are despicable people. You're allowed to go off stuff if it's too uncomfortable for you though and we don't all have to find the same stuff funny.

Also, Sophie does not deserve to be treated the way Mark treats her.

It's just Peep Show. No definite article. Superhans is an awful character and we're not meant to like him. Mark is also awful despite being more socially acceptable. Oddly it's Jeremy who has many many faults that is probably the most human.

There is more assault to come, I think both main characters are sexually assaulted at different points. It's quite a brutal show, but that's what makes it great.

Omg! I will have to steel myself if I am to carry on watching. Think there is another 5 series to go!

Thought this was going to be about a book I just read.

Peep Show. No ‘The’.

God that has put me off every watching it. I stopped watching Ballets by a certain choreographer after one of his shows featured a sexual assault scene. I just don't want to watch this. It makes me feel sick too.

Agreed and also agreed they are despicable

Super Hans is supposed to make your skin crawl.

Not to gove away spoiler but wait until you get to the episode where they eat a dead dog...

Was that Matthew Bourne? I used to love his stuff but if you're talking about his Romeo and Juliet set in an asylum, it was so dark it practically needed a trigger warning.

We didn't book for Red Shoes as the plot just sounded really awful and I had no desire to go and watch a beautiful woman tear herself apart.

The Red Shoes ballet was based on the 1948 film, which was based on a Hans Christian-Anderson story/fairy tale. (I saw it at Sadler's Wells, it was phenomenal.)

As for The Peep Show, just remember that Mitchell and Webb did not write it. They just acted in it.

PEEP SHOW not THE PEEP SHOW. Please.
And it’s great. Brutal at times, but that’s the idea. Super Hans isn’t a particularly likeable character through a lot of it, but has some redeeming episodes. And he really loves his twins. You know, the twins….

JekiJendor · 22/01/2026 20:24

the peep show was created at a different time with an open type of humour - a bit like inbetweeners. It’s not meant to be taken seriously. switch off if it’s getting to you
