New. Will Sharpe. Enjoyed Episode 1.

It was a pointless and not as good remake. Binned after Ep 2.

Watched one episode and thought ok. I like the music. Will keep going but it's not grabbing me

Dolamroth · 12/01/2026 06:22

The reviews weren't great, I was hoping it would be good as I loved the movie.

I’m 4 episodes in. It is very well done and I think Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany are really good.

I’m struggling with it a little bit because I know what is going to happen but the inevitability of Mozart’s destruction seems easier to take when you’re already engaged in a film rather than having to opt in to watch another episode. Especially when the rivalry is hugely overblown.

I really like the fact that they have more music in there - the C minor mass is fabulous.

Which channel is this on please?

Dh enjoyed it (although for some reason the episodes 3-5 were pin protected when he tried to download them but available by Skygo). I gave up after first episode and couldn’t fathom why an adaptation of a shortish play could take over five hours! It was very glossy though

Figgygal · 12/01/2026 09:29

Am enjoying it it's very opulent and the two main actors are great but DH is bored and didn't want to continue.

demareradreams · 12/01/2026 09:31

I enjoyed it. I’m a big fan of Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany and thought they were both excellent in this. I do need to watch the film again, though, as I loved it but haven’t seen it for years.
Some of the reviews I read panned it because Will Sharpe is (half)Japanese. No one is trying to convince you that Mozart was Asian. He’s just an excellent actor.

I liked this series. I love Mozart so can't resist anything about him. The only stage performance I ever saw of Amadeus was in Chicago, sometime in the 1980s. Mark Hamill was Mozart and I remember enjoying it because his Mozart was effective and affecting. I absolutely loathed the movie Amadeus, mainly because of Tom Hulce and Elizabeth Berridge (jarringly awful casting) although F. Murray Abraham was a majestically threatening Salieri and the rest of the ensemble cast was strong. I thought Will Sharpe and Gabrielle Creevy were very affecting as Mozart and Constanze and Paul Bettany was suitably creepy as Salieri. There were plenty of shortcomings in the production but the sublime music effectively silenced my quibbles.

Me and DH have just finished a binge watch. Will Sharpe, Paul Bettany and Gabrielle Creevy all gave really powerful performances carried by a good supporting cast and the glorious music. We both loved it.
