Waterloo Road - The Beginning

I've never seen it and have heard good things so ive just started this weekend. I'm on series 2 ep 1 and it's really interesting watching the current topics bearing in mind it's 20 years old.

Some things don't change! Mobile phones being confiscated in school, posting explicit pics of peers online, even fancy sourdough for breakfast has just make an appearance!

Its great till it isn't! Enjoy for now. I found it great as a talking point with teenage dc too. I've not watched the last few series so cant say if its any better now.

So I read reviews which said to watch 1-5 and then 11 onwards, skipping 6-10 Scotland years apparently. I dont know what that means but I'll find out when I get there. I'll probably just watch it all!

I did a massive watch last year - heard to skip Scotland but I’m glad I didn’t - I didn’t find it as bad as they say.
im up to date now and still love it-and it circles back in someways too

I’m currently rewatching too. Very nostalgic to me as last time I watched it I was in school myself! Series 4 is the best in my opinion 😁

DD and I have started on series 1, now up to episode 8. Love it! We loved Ackley Bridge when it started. She’s 22 and I’m 65

I’m currently on a rewatch too! I agree that Series 1-4 ish are the best. I’ve watched all of the series 1-10 years ago when they were on TV but I haven’t really watched much of the rebooted series. I’m interested to see what it’s like when I get round to it. I’m currently on Series 7 and I’m finding it nowhere near the level of the earlier series, but probably still worth watching. Scotland is Series 8-10.

I loved the early days of Waterloo Road! I rewatched it all on iplayer during lockdown and it was still as good then as when it was new.
I agree with the other comments, the first few (1-6?) series are the best. When they move to Scotland it ok but not as good. (As if you would relocate a school and some of its pupils from England to Scotland?!) Still worth watching though, I wouldn’t skip those series.
What I disliked about the Scotland years was everything around the Barry family - so irritating as a family and stupid storylines - and also the Lorraine character, who also had stupid storylines with a weird amount of control over the school for a non-teacher.
I do watch the newer relaunch but undecided whether I enjoy it or not.

The early series were really good, it definitely lost its way when they moved it to Scotland but the new series is proving to be equally as good as the early ones, admittedly after a somewhat slow start.

I think I remember struggling on season 7 too.

the newer ones take so long to start esp when there’s only 8 or so episodes.

Im currently on a rewatch. It's one of my favourite TV shows and I'm not sure how many times I've seen it. While the Scotland years aren't as good I wouldn’t skip them.
