Cant find a thread about this, and see it started last week.

Did anyone watch and if so would you recommend.

Or is it just another series rehashing many others?!

I've watched the first two. It's good enough I'll keep watching, but not so great I feel the need to binge it.

Thanks for the response.

Before I say this I read a review that made me think I wont bother.

But may put it on my back burner list, when there really seems to be nothing else to watch!

I have watched the first two. Similarly, not going to binge. I found it quite depressing and not an easy watch.

Redgooseberry · 12/01/2026 08:37

I’ve watched the first two and thought it was brilliant, though not easy to watch I found it fascinating, upsetting, intelligent and moving all at the same time. Thought beautifully acted and I’m invested in all the characters. I would definitely recommend it!!!

How nice to have a drama that engages the brain and demands concentration! They are few and far between. I'm finding this series completely absorbing and wasn't tempted once to check my messages.

IwantToRetire · 12/01/2026 19:37

Interesting to see the latest comments.

The review I read made it sound like a cliched drama series, just mixing in elements of series already broadcast.

Now sounds more like that really depressing, but I am sure true series about a prison officer trying to do the right thing and the pressures he came under.

(A while ago. Cant remember the title.)

I’d give it a go @IwantToRetire. I didn’t find it cliched, or comparable to other prison things I’ve seen. I found it different and absorbing.

Depressing is reality though isn’t it. It’s prison. A tv programme about is hardly gonna be a barrel of laughs (or shouldn’t be anyway)

I have just watched the whole series. I didn’t binge but enjoyed it and it kept me engaged. Felt it was really poignant and highlights how hard it is for children to have parents in prison. Thought it was realistic and well done and thought Dan was excellent. Thought the best episode was when Lee and Dan were looking for Amber at all the drug dens….

the80sweregreat · 13/01/2026 20:08

I really liked this drama. Well acted by the ones playing Dan and Lee and the prisoners were sublime.

The acting and dialogue is brilliant.

I really rated it too!

I watched all of this over a few nights.
I really enjoyed it. Great dialogue and great silences too. It was not what I was expecting and was actually far better than I expected.
Gave lots of food for thought. I was a little bit in love with most of the characters - mostly maternal love.

Sesquipedahlia · 13/01/2026 22:23

I found the whole series outstanding.

GreenJeIIy · 13/01/2026 22:35

It's good! Based on a true story, so yeah, good

Yes great combo of silence and dialogue- you could almost hear Dan thinking! Really well done.

It’s absolutely beautiful. Intelligent, deeply interesting, powerfully relatable. Dan is more than just a prison officer trying to do the right thing, he’s one of the most extraordinarily authentic and engaging characters to have been on TV. It’s not a comedy, but has some bleakly funny points. It also refuses to underestimate its audience’s intelligence and has the kindest, most humane outlook on human existence. Absolutely 100% recommend!

the80sweregreat · 15/01/2026 13:30

Monkey, I agree and you have written this better than I could have done! I did want to shake Daniel at times , especially over the phone incident, but he was the ‘ absent minded professor’ at times and a bit socially awkward, so I did have some sympathy for him.
His Brother made me smile, he was quite tough at times. I’ve known a few people like him though!

Oh you’ve captured it perfectly! I found OCD elements so accurate. I have (under control) OCD and I just knew in some parts what he would do next and why. I’ve done exactly similar things to the gas cooker, asking someone to reassure me with something that is in front of my eyes. Then getting on with work or whatever. The what iffery portrayal was raw in its reality.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 15/01/2026 19:56

I’m up to ep 4, it’s good but I watched the episode with girlfriends son behind my hands as knew something was going to happen to the boy.

Unbelievably frustrating to watch.

The OCD stuff is likewise torturous, why would he not see a Dr and get himself some help??

Anyway it is good and the acting is perfect, Dan portrays a man traumatised and also stuck at the age his dad disappeared. It’s definitely not a coincidence that he is working with men in prison.

He needs a decent therapist to help him unpick all his issues though.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 16/01/2026 20:03

I’ve got to the end, really liked this series 😊

Which girlfriend did he meet right at the end?

Hels20 · 16/01/2026 21:58

The one with the son - who broke his arm. Natasha.

Yes that was the only bit that annoyed me. A brilliant series and great character, but Dan, you fucked that relationship up and you'll have to try again with another one!
