Humphrey (Kris Marshall) has his hands full with a flurry of seasonal cases, while Martha (Sally Bretton) is busy with a task of her own.

Enlisting the help of Anne, Zoe and a special guest she races to pull off a secret plan.

With an influx of unexpected visitors, a slew of holiday crimes to crack and a heartwarming reunion on the line, the team struggle to juggle it all and still be ready for a life-changing reveal.

Adrian Edmondson and James Lance guest star. (S, AD, HD)
• Repeated on Wednesday at 2.00am on BBC2

WinterBerry40 · 22/12/2025 08:27

We always watch it including the series . It's pretty dull in reality or maybe the right word is fluff , but it's something unassuming and I like it that I'm on the same wavelength as the writer and can solve it early on .

FrenchandSaunders · 22/12/2025 10:56

I've never seen this before so would I understand the xmas special?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/12/2025 10:57

Yes.

suburburban · 22/12/2025 11:14

Where was Selwyn the duck, best character in it 😅

Dandeliontea123 · 22/12/2025 20:24

Does anyone know who wrote the poem read out in the episode? Can’t find anything on Google.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/12/2025 21:13

Just seen

can I mention a tiny thing called giving notice 28 days before

as in both have to sign and declare intention

It looked like a celebrant wedding, as there was no statutory declaration and there was only one person - there needs to be two at a legal ceremony.

She’ll have to drag him off to sign the paperwork and have a quick register office wedding 🤣

So they aren’t really proper married then ?

InMySpareTime · 23/12/2025 21:11

Still more of a wedding than the Return to Paradise one, where the celebrant was falsely accredited under an assumed identity after faking his own death.
Humphrey might have done the necessary preparatory paperwork before the previous wedding plans that got disrupted by the foster placement.
I thought Ade Edmondson was brilliant in this episode, and the board game flashback was lovely.
The ice melting was nonsense, the alarm sensor was infrared so cold things falling would not set it off, and the weight of the bottles would have dropped them vertically onto the bar not at an angle off it.

Blondeshavemorefun · 24/12/2025 22:02

I did think that about the bottles

I initially thought the nephew might have robbed the wine bar by entering via a tunnel from the coffee shop, hence there being no CCTV. Enjoyed the episode very much.

diddl · 25/12/2025 19:01

Really enjoyed that!

So will Selwyn & Humphrey work together on a case?

Davros · 25/12/2025 22:13

Phil Wang under the dirty snowman suit!

ChessieFL · 26/12/2025 15:46

Just watched this today. Ade Edmondson made me cry, he was fab!
