I’ve binged it from beginning to current series. I love it. I’m currently ill with this awful cold/flu bug and need something to watch.

Annika?

Anything Nordic from Walter Presents?

FoxRedPuppy · 02/12/2025 20:17

I’ve watched Annika and loved it. Normally love something Nordic, and watched quite a bit but not sure I can concentrate enough while ill

The bay

Vera (ITV). Both Shetland and Vera are based on books by Ann Cleeves. There's another series of books - Two Rivers - and ITV adapted the first one. Don't know if it's still available but I think it was quite good. The Long Call.

ScaryM0nster · 02/12/2025 20:22

Theres one set around Loch Ness.

Sweetiedarling7 · 02/12/2025 20:24

I would suggest The Gone and Black Snow both on bbc iplayer.
Set in NZ and Australia so no Scotland link but there was that same small town detective vibe in both which I liked from Shetland.

North shore

Sparkletastic · 02/12/2025 20:28

Cooper and Fry on channel 5
Art Detectives on U

When I was missing Shetland at the start of this year I turned to Vera, which I’d never seen before. In a month I watched all nine million, six hundred and seventy seven seasons.

The characterisation is fairly basic, the crimes as daft and complex as Shetland - but the landscapes are lush beyond lush. Absolutely hypnotic.

MsOtisReflects · 02/12/2025 20:31

Oh, and Dept Q. Set in Edinburgh. Harder hitting, verging on the surreal, altogether surprising and stylish.

Mamamia35 · 02/12/2025 20:35

After the Party on Ch4. Also, Riot Women on Iplayer. Strong female characters. Hope you feel better soon.

lemonraspberry · 02/12/2025 20:38

Luther is good.

Happy Valley
blue lights
Line of duty

PeonyPatch · 02/12/2025 20:38

I’m so glad Line of Duty is returning soon!

Peonyperfection · 02/12/2025 20:39

What is it that you like? Female detective? Landscapes?

I’d recommend

Ellis (chan 5)
The Loch (ITV)
Annika (BBC)

That’s a good question and would have been helpful for me to out that in my OP (bunged up brain).

I like crime dramas, and interesting characters- Unforgotten, Patience, Dept Q, Annika, Happy Valley

I do love Scotland- The Loch, Rebus, Karen Pirie.

I do also like Nordic dramas, and have watched quite a few.

I think what I initially liked about Shetland was it felt gentle (appreciate it got darker), th characters, but of humour? And obviously the scenery.

Maybe I don’t know what I want 😂

Hope Street on Iplayer, nice easy watching 😊

lemonraspberry · 02/12/2025 21:07

The Fall - female detective (not gentle though)
Broadchurch is on Netflix
Unforgotten
Clique (bbc player) is a bit different but enjoyable - set in Edinburgh
The Strike series also worth a try
Dublin Murders (bbc)

Guilt
bbciplayer. Lots of the same actors and absolutely fantastic. Three series too I think.
