So hyped.

He’s too dismal for words.

The lovely, noble soundtrack is cringe 😬 with this toxic twat’s shittiness on screen. Brighton is not made interesting.

I haven’t seen it but I’ve read the book, many years ago. If I recall correctly, you’re really not supposed to like Bunny.

JemimaTab · 22/11/2025 23:23

I read the book too when it came out and really liked it. But he’s an unreliable narrator and I generally find that this concept doesn’t translate easily to TV. (I haven’t seen this particular adaptation yet though).

You don’t like Bunny - but you can’t sustain wincing at the lead actor for six episodes. I think he goes to hell in the end, very in Christian if a bit satisfying.

I just finished it. I thought it was really well done. Matt Smith was fabulous as always. Yes he's a vile character but I found him believable and pretty compelling. That little boy was heartbreaking. The whole thing is a pretty rough watch

Didn't love the final episode though

RamsaySnowsSausage · 23/11/2025 16:10

I enjoyed it. He's a terrible person but they are the most interesting to watch. It was bleak but also funny and engaging and was paced really well - just the right amount of dwelling and naval gazing!

I thought Matt Smith was good too. He's never been my cup of tea looks wise (and I'm sure he is devastated about that) but he has a lot fans who do love him for his looks and he could very easily have just gone the romcom/hero route so it's great to see him being nasty.

Nick Cave is a legend too - I don't listen/read too much of his stuff though because it's so dark and also makes me feel really uneducated 😆

LittleJustice · 25/11/2025 18:14

Yeah I'm halfway through the first episode and not feeling the love really feel very sad of the little boy as the mum of three boys it really hits home.

Is it worth persevering? Seems pretty grim. Not sure I need to watch it really. I know there are shitty people in the world not sure I want to watch an entire program about one.

Best thing I’ve seen in quite a while, dark and odd and agree the boy is fab, he feels very much modelled on the boy from About a Boy.
not read the book, love nick cave. The series reminds me of the film Bird with Barry Keoghan

I loved it,best thing I've seen in ages. He's not a likeable character, that's the whole point.

It’s so well done, wish there was more.

I stopped watching halfway through the second episode. It was too upsetting to watch how the boy was treated and I wasn't enjoying the story at all.

Matt is a very good actor though!

He’s fab, very droll .
My childhood has some similarities so it is also a cathartic watch in a way, the bit with the shoes and his awful skin condition really resonates as well as bunny jr being a bit / a lot of an oddball for a child and having nowhere to go at times.
i used to dream of someone coming to rescue me

My childhood had a few similarities too! My parents would always put their enjoyment above everything else (eg. partying, drinking etc.) - they were very selfish.

And I had a skin condition too! Terrible eczema (prob from the stress).

Big hug to you ❤
