Anyone else remember this? First shown in 1976.

Yes ! I would love to watch it again .

WineBeforeWhine · 09/11/2025 19:32

Very promiscuous of its time. I’ve just started watching it, and it’s very dated, the acting, the sets.

I remember the 90s / 00s remake. I wonder if it's available anywhere still?

WineBeforeWhine · 09/11/2025 19:37

I couldn’t find it on Netflix or Prime but found the dvd on eBay.

I've only seen this one
I didn't know it was a remake
I thought it was fantastic.

2Rebecca · 09/11/2025 22:12

enjoyed the original which I was only occasionally allowed to watch

JellyBabiesmunch · 09/11/2025 22:14

I remember watching it without my parents knowing. I found it very exciting!

lazymum99 · 10/11/2025 08:42

I remember watching this as a teenager withoyt my parents (who were always out). It was veey risqué for its time. I loved it. But it must be really dated. Wasn’t Frank Finlay in it?

WineBeforeWhine · 10/11/2025 12:44

Yes it is very dated. I saw F Findlay in something else recently but always remembered him in this.

Remember this one well. Yes it did have Frank Findlay in it. I think the lead actress was Susan Penhalagon.

Eyesopenwideawake · 10/11/2025 13:20

The book is excellent, and far more explicit.

MNLurker1345 · 10/11/2025 15:41

I was 10 and I absolutely loved it! I am laughing, we wouldn’t let a 10 year old watch that now would we? I remember it as if it was yesterday. It left an impact on me.

saveforthat · 10/11/2025 15:45

Yes, I watched the original and then bought the book. Just remembered I have the video somewhere. I must dig it out and watch again. There is a part 2 called Another Bouquet, it's not as good as the first one and the remake is rubbish.

Middlemarch123 · 10/11/2025 16:14

The remake was dire, had Trevor Eve in it, sailing away in a hot air balloon. Ridiculous.

WineBeforeWhine · 10/11/2025 20:03

I’d forgotten how good it was, and so sad. (The original first series)

I’d never heard of Dailymotion, thanks for that. I found the two series on eBay so have it on dvd.

It's available on Youtube, search the Yesterday Machine , just binged watched the whole 2 series! Loved it as much as I did in the 70's, Frank Findlay smouldering ...in all the wrong ways!! 2nd series becomes unbelievable towards the end but still good. Went down a rabbit hole looking up all the actors on line.

Velveletteslonleylonelygirlami · 30/11/2025 22:55

Same as pp I was 10 ,I can't remember if I was allowed to watch but I remember the intro

Justmadesourkraut · 30/11/2025 23:05

I was studying King Lear for A levels in 1979 and James Aubrey was in the production we went to see, I think with The Old Vic on tour. He was a good actor. (playing opposite Christopher Nieve, who had been in Colditz.)
He then came into the shoeshop The next day, where I had a Saturday job, and my mates at school were all shocked that I hadn't found something incredibly profound or witty to say. (I just smiled vacantly, completely Star struck)
