Can't see a thread on this so apologies if there is one.

Was so excited for tonight!

Episode one looked promising.

Episode two - awful.
Just WTF. So much they could have done and they did that totally unnecessary scene.

And Mick is a gangster cop - WTF?

Bring back Brookside. Scrap Hollyoaks after that

It was an odd episode and so much don’t make sense. Dodger working after everything that happened that day and then letting Teresa go. The horrific scene with Dodger during the crazy “heist”?
and Ste going out after what happened that day with Peri and Nancy etc. Why was he there?
I am sick of the incredibly toxic line that Dillon can’t leave Lucas because he will do something stupid if he does, like his life depends on it and Ste is feeding into that narrative.

x2boys · 23/10/2025 07:33

I only watched it because I was a big Brookie fan back in the day
So I have no clue about the HollyOaks ,storyline
So many questions though ,Why are Sheila and Billy back on the close, and them looking after Gemma didn't make sense as Mick Johnson only came into Brookside,in 1989 and Sheila and Billy left in 1990 ,so they can't have been that close?

JazzyBBBG · 23/10/2025 07:52

And presumably Sinbad knew Mick was alive but they didn't explain that? In fact the whole Mick thing... pizza chef fakes own death to become a cop 20 mins down the road - wtf?

The scene with Dodger was unnecessary if you are going to do that you need to show the aftermath and the impact and be sensitive like the Luke story years ago. This was just "oh what else can we include for shock factor."

Was Sheila always that ‘posh’? Not that I recall.

I’m loving James being back. And do I detect some attraction to Dillon from Ste? I don’t think that’s been done before in a soap - a gay dad having an affair with his son’s boyfriend.

x2boys · 23/10/2025 09:05

I would also.have liked them to mention what Karen and Claire Grant were upto and Rod and Tracy Corkhill
They managed to mention that Sheila and Debbie had taken some flowers to put on Damon,s grave .

mynamefor2025 · 23/10/2025 10:35

Oh God couldn't watch the scene with dodger, had to fast forward 😪😪😪

WhatJustHappenedCelia · 23/10/2025 21:43

So many questions… I didn’t get the significance of Nikki Shadwick having a bundle of cash in her bra?

Why was Gemma living with Sheila and Billy? And why didn’t she have a Liverpool accent?

Why did Gemma set up the ‘heist’ - did she already know her dad was alive? And was warren in on it? All very confusing!

I was really looking forward to it but it all felt rather forced and far fetched. The late night episode was really disappointing and a shame they made out it was Brookie related when, in reality, it wasn’t!

MadisonAvenue · 23/10/2025 22:46

Re Nicki Shadwick and the money down her bra. Didn’t whoever was in the plane (not sure of the names, this is the first time I’ve watched Hollyoaks) throw a load of £20 notes out of it?

Sheila saying that she read a eulogy at Mick’s funeral yet surely she’d have hardly known him? I’m rewatching on STV and Mick’s only just come into it but it’s not far off when Sheila and Billy leave.

The whole Mick being a cop thing didn’t make sense either. Why did he fake his death? And why did he have such a drastic career change afterwards, in his 40s? And for whatever reason he had for changing his name why didn’t he move further away from Liverpool?

Cantwatchthiscrap · 24/10/2025 23:03

Watching it now just for brookside nostalgia, ca

Cantwatchthiscrap · 24/10/2025 23:09

Watching the brookside/hollyoaks absolutely awful, watched for brookside nostalgia absolutely no idea what’s going on with the hollyoaks drama, not working for me, acting dreadful, was so looking forward to brooky but this made no sense if u don’t watch the other one, had to get a vodka to get through it, bring back brookside an never watched hollyoaks for a reason, couldn’t stop laughing at the awful over acting, absolutely ridiculous

Allschoolsareartschools · 26/10/2025 17:24

Simply a Hollyoaks stunt for the 30 years. It was ok for a laugh, I don't watch Hollyoaks anymore do can't really comment on that.
Enjoyed Sinbad as the taxi driver & the Brookside theme tune. Everything else was just ridiculous although the Phil Redmond 'drama to drama' line was good.
I love Brookside on STV but that's because its old. It got really poor before it ended in 2003 & was a far fetched gangster show so the talk of bringing it back is hopefully not true.

Have seen people say maybe Ste being there was in Dillions head...

I have seen this - and I actually think that makes more sense. I kind of hope it is the case.

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 26/10/2025 17:59

The Dodger rape was a nod to the Luke rape.

Gemma set up the heist to get the diamonds or money off Warren. Mick and Dodger weren't meant to be there as Warren made a comment when he walked in and saw Mick.

The kiss between Frankie and the girl whose name eacapes me, was a nod to the first lesbian kiss on national tv between Anna Friel's character and the other one whose name escapes me too.

Sinbad actually appeared in Hollyoaks in 2023 as a taxi driver. And John Middleton was actually in Brookside.

Liked the nod to Jimmy Corkhill with the photo, the fact that Jacqui Dixon's daughter is played by Alexandra Fletcher's real life daughter is a nice touch. Half expected Shelia to give Mick a slap!

Loved hearing the theme tune, seeing Tinhead and Nikki and Barry. Comments about patios.

Don't watch Hollyoaks anymore but watched due to the Brookside crossover.

The Ste/Dillon stuff is stupid. Brendan needs to come back, I know he won't but he's the love of Ste's life.

jonnybriggswasgreat · 26/10/2025 18:42

I don't buy Ste giving into temptation with Dillon. Ste has a history of getting into inappropriate relationships, but an affair with his son's boyfriend is a bit much even for him!

I thought the Later episode was the best of the week - powerful and engaging. I don't know if it was necessary for the rape scene to be as explicit as it was.

The Brookie crossover I thought was OK apart from Sheila now being 'posh'. And I think the writers made a mistake with Mick's history of going into witness protection - it was an unnecessary complication. It's not like it's much of a stretch for a middle-aged man to train as a PC, but then again I can't think how else they could have explained Donny. It would have worked better if Louis Emerick had never been cast as Donny in Hollyoaks is what I'm saying.
