TV shows for a 13 YO girl

She's enjoyed Buffy, Wednesday, K-pop demon hunters and Arcane. Liked the marvel films but not many of the tv shows. Her friends have recommended a Good Girls guide to Murder but she didn't enjoy that, and a few other girly/young teen romance/high school type shows but she's adamant she won't watch that kind of thing. She says she doesn't like reality tv shows like strictly/bake off/pottery etc, although she will watch the traitors. She thinks she's too old for CBBC but we have all the streaming services (Netflix, Prime, Disney), I'm just struggling to find things that are age appropriate. One friend is apparently into Bridgerton but I think she's far too young!

Any recommendations?

Never Have I Ever
Gilmore Girls
Grey’s Anatomy (My dd loved it and learned absolutely loads about human biology from googling all the various injuries and diseases!)

NotNormally · 21/10/2025 19:35

I wouldn’t want dd13 watching Bridgerton what a weird choice.

did you rule out Stranger Things?

Hayley1256 · 21/10/2025 19:36

Vampire diaries
Gossip Girl
Teen Wolf
Pretty Little Liars

Hayley1256 · 21/10/2025 19:36

The summer I turned pretty

ainsleysanob · 21/10/2025 19:38

Stranger Things for you and her!

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 21/10/2025 19:39

Heirs of the Night (iPlayer)
Shadowhunters (Netflix) - although technically it's a 15

wizzbitt · 21/10/2025 19:44

I found 13 Reasons Why quite harrowing.

Abbot Elementary
Blackish
Ghosts

RedRiverShore5 · 21/10/2025 19:53

High Potential, Disney

MrsMattSantos · 21/10/2025 20:27

my DD is 14, nearly 15, so a wee bit older, but lives Stranger Things. It’s quite violent, but probably no worse then buffy tbh, and most of the violence is against monsters
she also loved School Spirits on paramount (which I think is on Disney) - about a girl who becomes a ghost trapped in her high school. there’s two series of that, with a third to come next year
she also watched Home Before Dark about a school girl reporter, which was also good
and she loves Race Across the World (slightly bizarre but there you go)

MrsMattSantos · 21/10/2025 20:29

oh and I forgot Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix, which is v sweary, but not horrific in terms of violence. She was obsessed with it last year

Tiswa · 21/10/2025 20:37

Cruel Summer was another one we liked

One of us is lying

didn’t take to Riversale and Sabrina was a lot (started it thinking was like the Melissa Joan Hart version of the 90s - it wasn’t)

we have watched only murders but finding the current series frankly dull

watchinf Ugly Betty as well fascinating to see how much has changed from 2006

we liked Lockhart & co but was cancelled so had to read the books

DysmalRadius · 21/10/2025 20:41

My teen likes Miranda, Would I Lie To You, Ghosts (UK and US) and Ludwig.

FoxRedPuppy · 21/10/2025 20:42

Geek Girl on Netflix my 13 ye old liked. It’s not like other teen high school dramas.

She like Stranger things.

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 21/10/2025 20:44

Heartstopper.
My life with the Walter Boys
Young Royals

ItsJustASimpleLine · 21/10/2025 20:47

Once upon a time. My daughter loves this.

Young Sheldon?

Agree Bridgerton is not at all appropriate.

So many suggestions, thank you! Loads of shows I haven't heard of and will look up.

she says she doesn't want to watch Stranger Things and DH thinks it's too gory but maybe we'll both give it a try

My DD14 and I have been watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix and she seems to be enjoying it.

NarwhalBuddy · 21/10/2025 20:48

XO, Kitty which is a tv show spin off from the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before movies all on Netflix

RightOnTheEdge · 21/10/2025 20:53

My dd14 and ds loved Stranger Things.

Dd really likes Modern family. They both love Cobra Kai.

SundayMondayMyDay · 21/10/2025 20:53

My 12 year old DD likes Dragons Den, Traitors, Race Across the World (also sewing bee and glow up) and I think she has also enjoyed Would i lie to you.

She’s currently watching a bit of Clarksons Farm with DH (although there is quite a bit of swearing in it). Also Friends. Previously enjoyed Strictly, but not watching this year. Also enjoyed Ludwig last year, and really looking forward to season 2 when that lands.

Favourites that have stayed on iPlayer are Ghosts, The Goes Wrong Show (and all the longer Christmas ones), and the US version of Ghosts.

Oh, she went through a phase of watching Your home made perfect (the architectural show), and of course Sort your life out.

frockandcrocs · 21/10/2025 21:32

Has she watched Angel?

DeathMetalMum · 29/11/2025 19:39

Race across the world
Merlin (bbc iplayer) watched with both dd's 12&14 and they loved it.
Also watched Heartstopper, Never have I Ever and Good girls guide to murder.

We are currently watching Only murders in the building, dp and I have watched it ourselves and while it's 15 it's quite twee. Dd's are really enjoying it.

The Other Place

noblegiraffe · 30/11/2025 00:38

If she liked Buffy, mine is currently enjoying Charmed.
