For anyone choosing to watch Blue Lights as a box set and not doing TV Pace

Just finished it all - totally loved it. Really hope that they do a series 4. Notices in the credits that Angela Griffin was director!
Has anybody else finished it yet?

Julesni77 · 30/09/2025 08:51

Half way through bet we finish it tonight! Love this show so much

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/09/2025 08:55

I’m only on Episode Two at the moment but feel free to discuss. There’s a spoiler warning so it’s very much Enter At Your Own Risk

I haven't finished watching but wanted to post that I was really nervous about starting to watch it. ie it has been so brilliant (esp. Series 1) and so much of the BBC 9pm series have been shit lately that I dreaded finding it too had been turned into mush.

But (although not up to series 1) really good.

And also a reminder of how policing in Belfast (NI as a whole) has really, really different elements than elsewhere.

Can it be possible that based on a plausible threat for over 24 hours the police will not answer any 999 calls?

If so that is a real wake up about a lived reality.

I am looking forward to finishing.

I hear that a series 4 is already in the pipe line.

snemrose · 30/09/2025 17:30

@IwantToRetire I thought that - what policing must be like over there. Even Annie not being able to go to her mums funeral and probably never knowing who you can actually trust.

Glad to hear series 4 is planned - hoping it won’t end anytime soon.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 30/09/2025 17:38

I’m sure I read it was definitely going to 5 series

Thoroughly enjoyed it, although not quite as much as S1 &2

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 01/10/2025 09:01

Absolutely loved it. Finished last night. Thought the Ombudsman turn around was maybe a bit unbelievable but the rest was great. Wondered why Aisling was still missing at the end but think it’s teeing up nicely for S4

snemrose · 01/10/2025 09:36

Yes I wondered about Aisling. Loved her picking up on the ‘Angela’ thing though. Hope she returns.
Have started rewatching s1 🙈
Shawn recovered pretty quickly but think he is more likeable this series than series 1

SlipperySlope99 · 01/10/2025 17:16

I liked the way they made links from the previous seasons and the twist of the sniper - all leads perfectly into season 4

IwantToRetire · 01/10/2025 17:31

I have also finished and thought compared to other serials in the 9pm slot was really good. But not, and I suspect never will be, as good as series 1.

I thought the action scences were really good. More convincing from showing how really frightening it must be.

But ... I thought there was far to much amateur mental health analysis going on, usually to make the person spouting the rubbish feel they were right. I dont remember this being so central in the previous series.

And certainly would have thought supporting someone in saying their reactions and emotions were real, ie realising some man was an abuser and feeling traumatised by witnessing somebody dying.

Let alone going to Berkshire! Can only assume the actress had another committment and they had to find a plot line to remove her. And suspect she will only be back if the other job isn't as sucessful.

Also, want to know what happened to the baby. One of the best tv surprises was seeing the baby propped up in bed wearing headphones to cut out the noise using a tablet!!

What is the name of the character, now set up to be the new crime boss in the next series. Really strange given how central her role was now and the write ups mention her.

But also wasn't sure if she had been in previous series, or is this yet another crime family in Belfast.

IwantToRetire · 02/10/2025 17:59

Very strange had to go through quite a few tv reviews before I found this character who was quite central referred to. Tina McIntyre!

I have a real problem with faces (which makes watching tv series quite confusing - I often rely on hairstyles!)

So have now reminded myself of the part she has played in the plot lines of earlier series.

I thought I had been seen her hired sharp shooter and it is Lee Thompson from series 2.

This thing with faces is why I have switched to binge watching, as trying to follow series week by week means I spend the first half of each episode taken up with trying to identify characters, and then by the second half have lost the plot developments in the first half.

MrsPositivity1 · 04/10/2025 01:13

Just binge watched it tonight. So emotional- I was very choked up. It’s such a fabulous show.

Violetparis · 04/10/2025 11:27

One of the few shows I've watched recently where I care about the characters and what happens to them. Enjoyed this series but found the last episode a bit confusing.

excelledyourself · 05/10/2025 11:47

Finished watching this morning. Really enjoyed it and think I cried at at least 5 episodes, but especially the scene with Aisling and Ciaran, and the one with his mum and dad as they were told.

I have to admit I found Grace really quite annoying in the previous series, but thankfully not so much this time. I think it’s the way she talks.

Quite an eye opener how their lives are impacted by the job, even more so than other forces.

Daffydaffodil25 · 05/10/2025 16:34

Just finished watching this afternoon. It’s such a good series. It really shines a light on how different and difficult it must be to police in Northern Ireland. I love the light and dark themes throughout the storylines. I can’t remember watching a series recently and feeling so tense. Looking forward to the next series!

TheAmberStork · 06/10/2025 22:25

I watched it and thought it was fab. Grace can be a bit sanctimonious at times but she did good in the end.. should definitely ditch Stevie though. Why on earth didn't he apologize for being such a dick over her not telling him about her past..she was obviously really upset, and it was all about him! What a prick!!!

Fifiesta · 07/10/2025 13:25

Absolutely brilliant series - no chance on earth of not binging it!!!
The tension was so intense that I thought my heart was going to ping out of my chest at one point, I was so involved with it.

snemrose · 07/10/2025 13:48

Loved it all and am rewatching for anything I missed. Grace was in Sherlock as his sister - only just realised.
I think Stevie was a bit of a dick about not knowing of her past but I want them to stay together.

I would love to know how realistic this programme is. A bit like LoD and Bodies (does anyone remember that with Max Beasley?)

From previous series discussed on Telly Addicts thought it was good. And representative of policing in NI (or specifically Belfast?).

I think LoD is how we would like to think the police behave.

True life stories make it seem unlikely Sad

(also cant understand why Grace has anything to do with Steve!)

snemrose · 07/10/2025 17:18

Why does nobody like Stevie? Am I the only one rooting for them?

IwantToRetire · 07/10/2025 17:20

Sorry cant type as fast as I think! So misrepresentation

From previous series discussed on Telly Addicts thought it was good. And representative of policing in NI (or specifically Belfast?).

From previous series discussed on Telly Addicts, those commenting from NI, thought it was good. And representative of policing in NI (or specifically Belfast?).

Just finished this last night and omg it was amazing! I can’t remember the first two series that well but often I find shows go a bit downhill after the first couple of series - they become too far fetched and a bit silly. Not this - I loved it so much. Wonderful acting.

hardliquormixedwithabitofintellect · 10/10/2025 23:15

Loved it! Such a great programme - now I wish I hadn’t watched it all in one go as it was over too quickly.
