Telly addicts

EE, apparently Chelsea is a junkie in the space of 3 episodes.... Do soaps have a responsibility to portray these types of topics accurately?

ep1: take a bit of cocaine on a night out

ep2: pleads with dealer for more coke

ep3: hopelessly addicted and lying/stealing/prostituting herself to fund habit.

does anyone else think this is daft. one line does not a junkie make! hollyoaks has built up their drug storyline nicely, sarting off with a bit of experimentation then slowly turning the two least likely characters into addicts.

are topical storylines handled well enough on soaps considering their popularity?

I was thinking that she may have got into something when she was in prison?

OracleInaCoracle · 02/06/2008 10:58

possible, but she wasnt seen taking anything until recently. which would be odd considering albert square has its very own local drug dealer

i thought that too whoops.

they are doing a similar storyline in hollyoaks (saddo alert!) and they were hooked in relatively few episodes.

how long does it take to get hooked on something like that though? genuine question - i have no idea

BlueDragonfly · 02/06/2008 11:00

should really read OPs properly b4 i post!

OracleInaCoracle · 02/06/2008 11:02

most users take cocaine on a semi-regular basis without becoming addicted. it is nowhere near as addictive as heroin (hollyoaks) which yu can be hooked on from the start.

how did she know sean would have some in the first place?

bubblerock · 02/06/2008 11:07

Hollyoaks have done a great job with the heroin storyline - but, It's vile since they seem to show puking in nearly every show, right on Tea time

OracleInaCoracle · 02/06/2008 11:32

he's the local dealer.

agree bubblerock that the timin is bad, but its showing that taking it isnt all nice floaty feelings. you throw up. you feel ill.
