who was that bloke in the coffin - one of ben's aliases?

onepieceoflollipop · 01/06/2008 21:11

Ooh does that mean Season 4 is about to finish? - sorry if dopey question!

We don't have Sky etc so I rent it from Amazon once it comes out on DVD.

LazyLinePainterJane · 01/06/2008 21:16

I saw it the other night.

The coffin-dweller is revealed at the end of the episode. DH guessed right. I was shocked, he NEVER gets these things right.

The woman who plays Sun is amazing in this episode.

Not on till next year now

ratbunny · 01/06/2008 21:29

Was he the orderly who spoke to Locke?

OP posts:
LazyLinePainterJane · 01/06/2008 21:58

I won't reveal anything, I wouldn't want to, I didn't want it spoiled after all.

The orderly (tall freaky man) was called Abaddon (surname I think). I remember thinking throughout the episode that I was sure we hadn't come across anyone called Jeremy Bentham, but that it sounded such a familiar name but couldn't place it. It bugged me ALL episode. Then I discovered that it's the name of a fucking famous philosopher! No wonder it was familiar! idiot

When Walt appeared I wasn't even sure it was the same actor he has grown so much.

schneebly · 01/06/2008 22:05

Jeremy Betham as Jane points out a famous name as is

John Locke - philosopher
Jean Jaques (Jaqueline!!!) Rousseau - Philosopher and peer of John Locke
(Desmond) David Hume - economist I think

strange....

schneebly · 01/06/2008 22:07

I realsied this about a year and a half ago when I was studying! There is also an early episode of lost caller 'Tabula Rasa' which is part of a theory belonging to (the real) Joh Locke!

schneebly · 01/06/2008 22:08

John Locke

Jean Jaques Rousseau

Davide Hume David is Desmond's middle name.

schneebly · 01/06/2008 22:11

apols for my crazy ramblings

LazyLinePainterJane · 01/06/2008 22:18

Don't forget Anthony Cooper, who in RL was the mentor who later fell out with philosopher John Locke. Locke Saved Cooper from a medical condition also.

In the show, Anthony Cooper was Locke's dad who stole his kidney.

David Hume was heavily influenced by Locke, and had a RL falling out with Rousseau. Obviously, not all these RL issues are reflected in the show but it's strange that they chose philosophers who were all connected in some way.

LazyLinePainterJane · 01/06/2008 22:22

Hurley, Mikhail and Boone all also have philosopher connections who were all connected to each other in RL.

And that doesn't even start on the literary refernces from the script or books found in the hatch [boggle]

I try not to even think about the time travel confusion-ness

schneebly · 01/06/2008 22:23

Ooh forgot about Anthony Cooper!

yes agree to strange philosophical links - I think it is important but not sure how...

LazyLinePainterJane · 01/06/2008 22:26

I think it's all underlying which may give you some sort of clue to how the story might go, or give you another layer of knowledge. I don't think it's integral to the plot though, as there are loads of people that watch that don't really care that much.

My big question though was what the arse has happened to Claire? And did Desmond lie about his vision to Charlie or did he change time?

schneebly · 01/06/2008 22:29

Oh don't lol it is all so confusing! What was the deal with Claire and her/Jack's father in Jacob's hut and who the f*&^%ing hell is Jacob anyway!!!????

I need to go to bed - it is all too much and by the time the next series is on I wil have forgotten everything

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/06/2008 22:31

Definitely need a

[head exploding emoticon]

LyraSilvertongue · 01/06/2008 22:31

Ahhhh, Penny and Desmond reunited [weep]
I don't know if this has occurred to anyone else but what are they feeding poor Aaron? He's only a few weeks old and Claire was BFing him. Presumably there's no formula on the island...

OP posts:
schneebly · 01/06/2008 22:32

Lyra I said the exact same thing to DH!!

LyraSilvertongue · 01/06/2008 22:33

I didn't know that about the philosophers. This is one hell of an intricate plot. The writers did their homework.

OP posts:
LyraSilvertongue · 01/06/2008 22:34

schneebly, only a mother would notice

OP posts:
schneebly · 01/06/2008 22:35

I'm thinking one of the writers is a philosophy graduate!
