Finished this yesterday and cried buckets.

Anyone else seen it? Found myself nerding out looking at maps of USA and googling American history. I'm sure it's not 💯 accurate but what a huge price people paid to try and make a better life.

I loved Elsa. So beautiful and feisty.

Gorgeous landscapes too.

It was a bit hard work at times though. Like an ok/nice bit followed by impending doom/peril then aftermath, on repeat but it was really good.

I enjoyed Yellowstone but 1883 was far better in many ways.

Still thinking about it today so thought I'd do a post.

We loved 1883! I also cried lots!

1975 is amazing - defiantly recommended carrying on & watching this one too if you haven’t already!

SodOffbacktoaibu · 07/09/2025 10:28

1975? Not 1923? 🤔😁 I will watch it though I'm going to give it a few days I think. Thanks though. I do like Harrison Ford.

1883 brilliant. 1923 took longer to get into but did enjoy it. Have tried Yellowstone twice & failed. Just seemed to try & introduce too much at once. Will give it another go.

The first episode of Yellowstone was terrible and I had to attempt it twice to get what was happening. But then just go with it and it gets better. Hoping Netflix gets the last season sometime. I really can't justify a paramount subscription on top of my others.

I was quite fancying 1975. I think a seventies era could be cool 😎 😁

I really enjoyed it, and the first season of 1923, the 2nd season wasn’t so good and I couldn’t get into Yellowstone at all. I think they are making another series set in the 1940s?

Duh · 07/09/2025 11:11

I really enjoyed 1883. A tough watch but the brutality had storytelling purpose.

However, 1923 was deeply unpleasant in its relentless torture of female characters that did absolutely nothing to aid the story or their characters’ arc. I won’t be watching the 1970s one.

Oh that doesn't sound so good. I don't like female characters being raped or brutalised when it is gratuitous. I will proceed with caution.

1975 isn't happening! That was Em's typo and me musing it could actually be a cool era.

Ah! Well no series, irrespective of decade, would entice me 😊

Such a shame, we enjoyed the the show so much we even paid for a Paramount subscription purely to watch 1883 and 1923. So disappointed in the latter (particularly second season).

I started with Yellowstone (skipped the first dreadful episode) and loved the scenery so much I wanted to visit Montana. I then found out that a lot of it is filmed in Texas!
I loved loved 1883 and enjoyed 1923 but as others say there is an unnecessary and unpleasant storyline.

The last series of Yellowstone is disappointing esp with the 22 month wait from episode 8 to epsiode 9! Anyone lucky enough to watch the last series in 1 go might have a better experience.

For anyone who likes Taylor Sheridan - Lioness starts on ITV tonight at 2215 and Landman on Paramount is quite good.

Ohh thanks. I'll take a look at that. 🫡

I loved Yellowstone! 1923 was dire - I agree with PP about the unnecessary and gratuitous torture of women. And all just so far fetched. I liked Landman. But none of them are a patch on Yellowstone.

nicepotoftea · 27/09/2025 11:39

Finished watching it last week. Really enjoyed it.

Took a bit of a roundabout route to watching it. Enjoyed Downton, so watched Gilded Age, and was looking for another American period tv series in the same era, but have been watching the Yellowstone shows in the order they were broadcast so haven't watched last series of Yellowstone.

I loved the character of Elsa and would watch anything with beautiful scenery and horses.

I thought it provided a useful insight into American culture - both the reminder that America is still so young, and the wariness of government. I have no idea how accurate the shows are historically, but their popularity suggests that this is how Americans want to see themselves. I'm interested that Taylor Sheridan shows have been portrayed as right wing, but many of his characters don't seem that keen on capitalism.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 27/09/2025 12:21

I adored 1883 I thought it was beautiful and I said so on here and got absolutely slated by someone on the grounds of whitewashing and cultural appropriation and historic abuses. I agree with @Duh about 1923 it was awful especially the ending, and it started with such promise. I do believe they are doing 1944 though!

TheJustJoker · 27/09/2025 12:39

Loved 1883. It stayed with me for some time after watching, so had high hopes for 1923. It was dreadful. Tried Yellowstone too but struggled to get into but in view of some posts on here might give it another go. Love a Western!

WitsEnd694 · 18/03/2026 16:47

Omg. Just finished 1883 and came here to look and see what others thought. I am absolutely shocked to see no negative reviews. I thought it was absolute garbage! Dragged on for an age and her narration was painful.

We watched yellowstone first and thought it was good, definitely got better as it went on.

Watching 1923 now and while i agree 'that storyline' is awful, on the whole I'm enjoying it.
