Hey
I’m laid low with multiple infections and poor immunity. I have run out of things to watch and keep investing my time in awful dubbed films in Netflix where the pros is good but the execution and voiceovers are AWGUL.
i want something either lighthearted or engaging or both
.i love tv drama series but am a bit over detective duos who may or may not make out.
i love dramas with relationships, like the slap, the feud, the widower
i love a bit of crime but not too gory or sinister at the moment.
loved happy valley, the gathering, breaking bad but don’t want anything too blokey , bloody or gangsta at the moment.
No caring for infirm / dying relatives, no terminal illnesses
comedy wise I loved motherland, peep show, the office, fleabag, all Alan partridge, loved sex and the city, not the films or spinoff
love a good noir film and decent romantic comedies, cannot stand rebel Wilson

if I think of more I will add but hopefully this gives you an idea

i gave Netflix, Amazon, now tv (only the tv package) , Disney + all the tv channels like 4od, itvx, I player etc. think I have mubi for BBC a couple more days

Good shout on Gilmore girls. You might like hart of Dixie too.

I love me some Miss Marple (joan Hickson is my personal fav but the modern ones are ok too), no worrying who will make out with who! Foyles wars great too, very proper. Rosemary and thyme is a good one. new tricks maybe. the Americans.

try green wing for comedy, it is a true classic.

menopausalfart · 31/08/2025 14:41

One of the best dramas I've watched on Netflix is Mindhunter.

Thank you @menopausalfart and @ThirdStorm this is a good lot to start me off

I found a series on iplayer called The Guest, this is my sort of absorbing telly without too much brain power, just what I need atm so any more recommendations like this would be fab.

The Guest starts at 9pm today on BBC1 so you are ahead of the curve!

Yes Gilmour Girls is a good shout.

Netflix has just added a series Accused. It’s from 2010 but it’s really good.

Slimtoddy · 01/09/2025 15:23

Leftovers - really stayed with me - Now
Schits Creek - funny - Netflix
Shameless (US) - crazy, funny - Netflix

Sweet magnolias on netflix. Very easy watching and 4 season. Really hoping for a 5th

SmallChanges3 · 01/09/2025 19:05

You mentioned dubbed shows... Did you watch Cable Girls on Netflix? It's a Spanish show with a pretty good dub. It's set in 1920s Spain and has a bit of mystery, crime and romance rolled into one. 5 series. I may watch it again this evening now I've remembered about it!

Ooh no not heard of it. I love Spanish and love trying to improve my knowledge of the language if it’s subtitled or offers that option, thanks

Alma's not normal
The power of parker
Ghosts (uk & us)
The American office
Mr Inbetween

Cobbstown · 02/09/2025 02:55

Big stuff with lots of series/episodes but lighter that I've enjoyed
The Americans (spy drama)
Madam Secretary (white house drama)
Jack Ryan (cia drama)
Crash Landing on you ( Korea with subs, it's worth getting past the first few episodes which can feel a bit bonkers - is awesome)

Thanks everyone, so many things I haven’t heard of, wonder if it’s telly algorithms?

Korean one sounds good 👌🏽

Gilmore Girls too
I've recently enjoyed Yellowstone and the two prequels 1883 and 1923 (or similar!)
Also good:
Godless
Unforgotten
Queen's Gambit
The Diplomat
The Resident
MadMen
TheLincoln Lawyer
