A quick summary of Sex and the City tv series please

I'm taking dd, 15, to see the movie at 5.15.

She was too young to watch the series, so I need to give her a quick summary of the tv series for her before we go.

What would you tell her? (No spoilers of the film please?)

Lots of shagging, some of it lesbo
Lots of girls talking about boys
Fab (if off the wall) fashion
4 actresses who never ate.

Carrie loves Big - very on/off unhealthy relationship, end of series it looks like they're finally together

Charlotte is infertile but desp for kids, converted to Judaism for her hubby.

Miranda, serious lawyer, unplanned pregnancy with Steve, they split up and then got back together. They moved out of Manhattan.

Samantha, sex crazy, in remission from cancer, hot young man.

Carrie - writer, on/off relationship with Mr Big but finally works out but not married yet
Miranda - hotshot lawyer who got pregnant in a casual relationship with Steve but then they fell in love and got married
Charlotte - rich WASP who fell in love with her Jewish divorce lawyer, converted to Judaism and married him. They have adopted a little girl
Samantha - PR woman and shameless shagger. Has fabulous toyboy called Smith. Got breast cancer and survived.

That's it really

Slouchy - One of the reasons I loved SATC was the fact that they did eat (well they ate in the show anyway!)

They always seemed to be having 'brunch' with a side of homefries and french toast etc etc. It used to make me very hungry!

Four eminently slappable, self-centered, skeletal clothes-horses pontificate in the most annoying fashion, complete with patronising voice-over, about life and sex and shoes. Critics salivate over "feminist" credentials of programme in which all female protagnists define themselves through need for a man, and shoes.

All men, and other viewers whose brains have not yet turned to mush, groan in agony and leave the room.

None of them use their kitchens.

Carrie is addicted to shoes and looks like a horse.

You just don't get it.
The main thing I love about it is the humour. This doesn't help the OP, I know, but my favourite scenes are (not in order)

• when Miranda tells Steve she's pregnant at the hot dog stall
• when Steve then comes round to propose with a second hand ring
• when charlotte gets cold feet just before her 1st wedding and confides to Carries about Trey's "shortcomings"

It also makes me cry;

• when Miranda's mum dies
• when Carrie ends the affair with Big at the time of his marriage.

I could go on.... and on... and on....

Don't worry - the film does a quick recap (includes Samantha's "funky spunk" line ) and it stands alone pretty well.

It's quite long!

Oooh - counting down to 5.15.

My dh is one of the few straight men around who enjoyed the series - he's valiantly looking after dd2 while dd1 and I go off to see it.

UD - you're obviously one of the majority of men who hated it.

I did think about sneaking dd2 (12) in with us, but it's probably highly unsuitable for her.

Saw it the other night.
Be prepared for your dd to see a few shagging scenes - some mild, some a bit more steamy

I am going to see it next Friday in a group of 5.

Only caught on to the series at the end of final season then went mad for it buying all box sets.

It got me through the final throes of my crumbling marriage which ended two years ago.

also cry at mirandas mother dying - luckily al te other episodes make me cry ith laughter

Well worth seeing - dd and I thoroughly enjoyed it...definitely lives up to its 15 rating too. I might go and see it again with dh, who'll love it.
