Has anyone seen this? What do you think, was it a set up?

I think it was and i think he organised the whole thing. It was 100% those brothers he knew, the uber evidence, them on CCTV, the fact they say they did it and he paid them to do it!!!!

His excuse of him saying they’ve lied that it was them for publicity doesn’t make sense. Who the hell would lie about that because there was a risk they could have been prosecuted for assault. Plus the fact he paid one of them 3.5k!

Towards the end it made me laugh when they were examining the CCTV stills of what blatantly looks like 2 black men, and the Jussie supporters are saying it looks like two white men to them! 😁.

I cant believe hes still sticking to this lie 😭😭

Surely it would be better for him to admit that he was broke and apologise in the hope of working again

Yes I can’t believe he’s sticking to his lie. It was clearly a set up. If, as Jussie tries to say 2 random white guys decide to roam the streets of Chicago on the off chance they see a lone black guy who they can racially abuse and place a noose over his neck why would they do it in sub zero temperatures at 01:30 when there was barely anyone around? However he had already received a racist note some weeks before hand mentioning a noose so that would suggest that it was targeted at him? If so how would they know that at 1:30am on a freezing cold night he would randomly decide to go to Subway having just arrived in Chicago? I also thought he was bundled up wearing a big woolly hat. He says he heard racist and homophobic abuse coming from behind him. Would someone really recognise him as being Jussie Smollet in those circumstances? I can imagine a couple of racists shouting racist abuse but why homophobic unless they knew him?

The issue with the noose was really odd too. Surely the first thing you would do is remove it back at the flat? But no he stands there with it round his neck waiting for the Police to arrive then tells them to turn their BWC off? He says he put it back on again so they could ‘see it’. They didn’t need to see it round his neck. Just the fact he had the noose was enough and in reality they could have checked it for DNA? If this deeply offensive and frightening action had taken place would you really want to put it back on again?

I think it was all a stunt for attention. I don’t think he intended on ever reporting it to the Police. It was his friend or manager who rang the Police and in effect forced him in to it. I think he was going to do some SM posts to say this awful thing had happened to him which would garner him loads of attention make him a poster boy for gay/black activism. Unfortunately he didn’t think this through and if what happened was true it was horrific and should rightly be investigated by the Police. Consequently it was taken out of his hands by his friend reporting it and his story just didn’t hang together under scrutiny.

What were the brothers doing there if not involved? Madness

MorrisZapp · 24/08/2025 10:33

I haven't seen it yet but DP said it's really good. Can't believe this guy is sticking to his embarrassing story.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 24/08/2025 10:57

@CalamityGanon i thought this too. He didn’t think it through and probably never planned to call the police. Although I guess he went to the lengths of actually faking an attack rather than just turning up with a noose.

I do think it was for attention not money

Well, I've watched it now. I admit I'm a bit torn. The brothers are clearly publicity seeking criminals and would have been ripe for making a police deal, though I don't understand why they were there in the first place.

The Chicago PD is racist and corrupt from top to bottom, and my trust in them melted away as the film went on.

But then you have Smollett, an irritating, self regarding prat of the first order. Carrying his Subway sandwich up the stairs. Wearing the noose as a prop for the police.

I think there's more to know about all of this, and someone will talk about it soon enough.
