Sometimes there's no better way to spend an evening than settled down on the sofa with an addictive crime show (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/g63850895/best-new-crime-dramas-uk/), and In Flight looks to be the watch of the moment.

In Flight: Plot
If you liked ITV's Red Eye or BBC drama Nightsleeper, we think you'll love In Flight. Katherine Kelly plays flight attendant and single mum Jo Conran, whose life is turned upside down after the arrest of her son.

Serving a fifteen-year sentence in a Bulgarian prison for a murder he swears he did not commit, a gang use Jo's son as leverage to blackmail her into using her job to smuggle drugs around the world.

Channel 4 shared: "As Jo becomes ensnared in the murky underworld of corruption and hired killers, she is forced to carry out their orders while desperately trying to find a way out.

She turns to her ex, Dom, for help however, no matter how far Jo finds herself from her old life, her mission remains the same, to keep her son alive.

Set against the fast-paced, high-pressure backdrop of international air travel, In Flight follows Jo’s relentless quest to protect her family while entangled in a dangerous criminal syndicate."

From the acclaimed team behind Marcella, Slow Horses and Tin Star, this new TV series (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/tv-reviews/g31986791/best-tv-shows/) promises "high-octane" drama, heart-pumping action, a global drugs syndicate and, at the heart of it all, a mother's tireless fight to save her son.

Intrigued? Channel 4 describes In Flight as being set in "the fast-paced, high-pressure world of global air travel and will follow Jo's relentless quest to protect her family while entangled in a dangerous criminal syndicate."

Set across Bangkok, Bulgaria, Istanbul and London, there's no telling where this "compelling new crime-thriller" will land, and its cast is certainly well-versed in the genre, with the likes of Protection (https://www.redonline.co.uk/entertainment/a63328628/protection-release-date-cast-news/)'s Katherine Kelly, Crime's Stuart Martin and The Fall's Bronagh Waugh front and centre.

In Flight: Cast
The cast is led by the award-winning Katherine Kelly (Mr Bates vs the Post Office, The Long Shadow,) who plays In Flight's protagonist Jo Conran, a single mum and air hostess sucked into drug smuggling to protect her son.

Speaking about joining the series, Kelly said, "I am really excited to be taking on the role of Jo and I can’t wait to tell her compelling story. It’s joy to be filming in Belfast."

She is supported by a stellar lineup including Stuart Martin (Miss Scarlet and The Duke, Crime) as Cormac, a key member of the criminal gang; and Ashley Thomas (Black Cake, Them) as Dom, a customs officer at a major London airport.

Bronagh Waugh (The Fall) as Melanie; Harry Cadby (Dope Girls) as Sonny; Corinna Brown (Heartstopper) as Kayla; and Ambreen Razia (Ted Lasso) as Zara have also been announced as key cast members.

I found it ok, but I wasn’t sure why her colleague didn’t realize it wasn’t her suit case. I know she was hungover.

3luckystars · 12/08/2025 22:38

The dodgy beardy man was at the airport watching her and I think he tipped them off to test her.
Feel sorry for her son who is innocent ( far as we know)

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2025 06:03

All I could think ( bizarrely) was how it was giving actual drug smugglers ideas of how to hide drugs in a case to avoid the X ray machines. I know it’s only a tv drama

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2025 06:09

I imagine it isn't true! If sniffer dogs couldn't smell things simply because of hair conditioner we'd be in trouble.

I couldn't get over how different Ashley Walters looks with a beard. He's really aged. I barely recognised him.

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2025 06:24

Why are they stitching up her son though ?

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2025 06:44

Who knows? Many many plot holes...

the80sweregreat · 13/08/2025 09:00

I suppose that the real drug smugglers must have ways around things if they use airplanes to smuggle their wares. I know that’ mules ‘ have to do all sorts , but case smuggling must be even harder to get around ?
It must work more than it doesn’t I suppose ? I am very naive around a lot of it though or how they get them into the country.

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2025 09:03

Yes, me too. I guess the mules are just totally expendable to the big guys. If they get caught, they get caught.

gladiator12 · 13/08/2025 14:00

Watched the first episode last night and not sure if I will continue. As ex cabin crew I think makers of the show could at least have made a stab at reality! Crew don't check in luggage like normal passengers, collect luggage at the carousel with passengers then walk gaily out of the airport. Crew go straight to the crew room after a flight for a debrief, check out on computer and check for any changes to rotas for the following day. It's huge details like this that spoil it for me.

Piggywaspushed · 13/08/2025 14:08

Yes, I thought I'd never seen crew at the old carousel!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/08/2025 14:30

Tbh I did wonder why checked them in as small trolley dolly so could fit in cabin

Yes that bugged me too! I work in the industry and have done airport visits(the separate security check was something I never knew existed before seeing it). It was so annoying to watch. If they're going to write a drama using something like this then at least get the basic facts right.

Hesperatum · 14/08/2025 16:57

Is it just me, am I the only one who can barely see some of the scenes as they are so dark? This criticism does not only apply to In Flight but so many other crime series. Is the lack of lighting to highlight the general dark and moody ambience, or do I need glasses?
