Freesat box worth it? Can I plug into my sky q dish?

Hi
So I took the plunge got rid of my sky, cut down all my apps and now just have Netflix, free apple tv and basically free apps.
My question is, I don't have an aerial and the associated costs are putting me off putting one in but would mean I could access free view. However, I'm also looking at a freesat box and plunging it into my old sky q dish. Is this feasible? Which is better? Im finding that streaming my apps via my tv is a bit hit and miss, advice pls xx - yep ive checked my WiFi/ Internet connection speed etc

If you are watching live tv you need a tv licence. Just stream tv via the internet

Im struggling to stream thats why im looking at an aerial or freesat. I didn't mention a tv license because I have one. The issue I'm trying to resolve is connection and these are my two queries. Freesat box via satellite dish v having an aerial fitted x

I've just moved and this house didn't have an aerial either and I can't afford Virgin or Sky. I've managed to get a new aerial fixed inside the attic rather than pay for someone to attach it to my chimney and I've got one of those recording devices, both from Argos. My ex managed to do it and he's not that great at DIY.

I would try a FreeSat box, make sure you get the right one though as not all will fit the Sky Q LNB.

I bought a freesat box, the one where you can record live tv and it works perfectly with the sky cable connections. Best thing I’ve ever done.

I worked out that the only programmes I was watching were on free to air channels but I tended to record them and watch them back on my own schedule so I was paying a fortune to just record. I am no longer dependent on sky and I’m saving so much money. The box paid for itself within two months.

I have a freesat box (with record function) and have done so for 20 years. I believe the old satellite dish was a sky one originally and it worked fine. Had a new dish a couple of years ago. As PP said, you’ll just need to check the box is compatible and it should be fine.

and save you a lot of money!

Thanks everyone, I've been put and brought one today. Took me ten mins to set up, including getting the controls programmed to my tv and to sign into netflix and the apps. Working perfectly, best thing I've done v happy 😊 x

Which one did you buy that fits sky q cable?
I want to get rid of sky too, but needs to replace as o like the record function.

@Holdonasec I replaced my sky q box with this one. We were paying £130 a month to sky so it paid for itself in two months. It records and can record quite a few programmes at once. It’s brilliant. We cancelled sky 3 months ago and haven’t missed it once.
