What did I watch?

I am racking my brains trying to remember a programme I watched at least a year ago maybe more.
Fairly sure it was BBC 1 or 2. it was a crime drama with a whimsical/comical edge with a female protagonist but I can't remember any of the actors or even picture them.
I think the lead actress might be Northern.
The only things I remember are her ex husband had screwed her over, there's a dogknapping and at the end there's a masked ball at a country house with a maze and the ex husband gets his comeuppance.
The title was quite long: something along the lines of 'So and so discovers something awful'

Sorry this is really vague but it's stuck in my brain for some reason and driving me crazy.

I do remember Derek Jacobi in it but who he played I can’t remember. The woman did get her revenge.

I loved it. It made a change from the usual fare.

Julian Barrett was also in it too. I remember enjoying it , but can’t recall the actual plot tbh
