She's been hailed "the perfect British spy" and now Channel 4 is giving us the chance to see The Handmaid's Tale (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a63782240/the-handmaids-tale-series-6/) star Elisabeth Moss in action in espionage drama, The Veil.

The series, which originally aired on Hulu in the US and Disney+ in the UK last year, centres around the ultimate game of cat and mouse (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a63949705/itv-malpractice-series-2/) - and, as spy thrillers go, it's a gold standard series indeed.

Arriving on Channel 4 imminently, the brilliantly twisty, high-stakes series has two women at the heart of it: Imogen (Elisabeth Moss (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a64888533/imperfect-women-apple-tv/)), who works for MI6, and Adilah (Yumna Marwan), who’s suspected of being a high-level ISIS operative.

The pair travel from Istanbul to Paris and London, with one of them in possession of a secret that the other needs to expose. Written by Peaky Blinders (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a62578303/peaky-blinders-film/)’ Steven Knight, it’s a globe-trotting thriller that won’t disappoint.

The six-part spy thriller explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women, MI6 spy Imogen (Elisabeth Moss) and suspected ISIS operative Adilah (Yumna Marwan), who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London.

One woman has a secret (you might be able to guess who), while the other has a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. All the while, the CIA and French DGSE must work together to avert potential disaster.

The question is, will Imogen be able to get to the truth in time?

And will she be able to prevent a catastrophic terrorist attack?

Like all good spy thrillers, we get a glimpse into Imogen’s personal life, too, with flashes from her past haunting her along the way.

No spoilers, but we also see the appearance of a mysterious man played by James Purefoy throughout.

The cast of The Veil includes:
• Elisabeth Moss as Imogen Salter
• Yumna Marwan as Adilah El Idrissi
• Dali Benssalah as Malik Amar
• Josh Charles as Max Peterson
• Thibault de Montalembert as Magritte
• James Purefoy as Sir Michael Althorp
• Dan Wyllie as Guy
• Joana Ribeiro as Sandrina
• Haluk Bilginer as Mr. Demir
• Alec Secăreanu as Emir

Elisabeth Moss has been praised for her performance and has been described as "the perfect British spy", with Rolling Stone declaring that she "kicks ass". Variety has called The Veil a "fascinating spy thriller". So, if you're a fan of spy series like Slow Horses (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a62621700/slow-horses-series-6/) and The Agency (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a64606696/the-agency-series-2/), we'd highly recommend tuning in

Thank you

lazymum99 · 14/07/2025 09:07

I have got it showing on Sunday at 9 not Saturday. So clashes with Karen Pirie.

NewAgeNewMe · 14/07/2025 09:40

I’m away so will check when home but often do +1 (hour) on sky.

Isitsticky · 14/07/2025 11:41

I'll be watching at some point. I did read a terrible review though. Her accent was slated, among other things.

veryhottoday · 14/07/2025 13:51

Thibault de Montalembert and James Purefoy - yes, please.

I'm on 2nd episode and enjoying it so far but I won't share any spoilers cos I'm guessing its tv pace? The Daily Mail telly guide (I know dong judge me, its the best tv guide around) gave it 4 stars. Her accent is a bit wooden and the character slightly annoying. I'll be interested to see what others think. There's a few parallels with Handmaid's. The gorgeous Josh Charles, red dress, long lingering looks to camera and talk of leaving children behind. But I'm intrigued enought to keep watching and its only 6 45 minute episodes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/07/2025 18:42

Yes this will be tv pace @Crinkle77

Haven't watched yet and away now for a couple of days but checking in to see the thread's verdict.

Fifiesta · 20/07/2025 22:44

Watched E1 tonight and was captivated.
I don’t think I will be able to wait a week, and as there are other programmes on at this time slot will probably stream the rest of the series. So good to have something high calibre to watch during the *‘silly season’!
Veteran John Le Carre fan…

StinkingEelPie · 21/07/2025 08:29

I wish I’d been as captivated as you!
I thought it was terrible- from the ridiculous high heels in the first scene, to the constant tame smoking, to the super clean and tidy refugees, to the lack of any checking on the arrival of Imogen on a UN sponsored camp in which there were about three staff for 10,000 refugees.
The arrival of Will frm the Good Wife aka the High Commander from The Handmaid’s Tale, was the only thing that kept me to the end 😎

Doingtheboxerbeat · 21/07/2025 22:57

I knew nothing whatsoever about the show and thought I'd give it a quick watch, but immediately came here as soon as I heard her accent 😫. It's so distracting and I'm glad it's not just me.

peanutbuttertoasty · 22/07/2025 09:47

The accent is dreadful. Unnaturally posh in an unbelievable way but veers into South African or Irish at times. I kept getting visions of her trying to do Kate winslet in the mirror. Also the moment she said ‘garridge’ which nobody with her accent would ever say. Also normally a fan of Elizabeth moss but felt she was the worst thing about this show. Overacting most of the time. Got sick of the arch looks thrown over her shoulder to nobody. It was a bit panto. Enjoyed the series though whilst forgiving the plot holes.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/07/2025 10:12

I didn’t even notice the accent

OP posts:
ginasevern · 22/07/2025 12:58

I only watched the first episode on Sunday but her awful English accent killed it for me. She sounds like a BBC newsreader from the 1950's. She's also concentrating so much on getting the accent right that the acting seems secondary. Aren't there any, you know, actual female English actors that could've taken the role ffs.
