I read a good review on this.

It was just terrible. Really flat. I don’t know if was the acting or the camera work, or the general production values. Just awful.

I’m watching it at the moment. Sadly, I’m finding it just a bit…dull. I think it thought of might be a bit like the BBC2 series Starstruck, but it has none of that comedic joy, alas.

unsurewhattodoaboutit · 13/07/2025 20:50

I really enjoyed it.

Claymoreiron · 14/07/2025 08:06

I like it. I found myself a bit overstimulated by the episode with the party at her boss’ house. Too much chaos. But I like the complicated nature of how her relationship with Felix is playing out.

The episode where she shows the breakdown of her previous relationship is really good. Really sad.

Lena Dunham isn’t to everyone’s taste but I think she writes the realities of relationships really well.

CherryogDog · 14/07/2025 09:41

I'm on episode six.
I've been skipping through the sex scenes (maybe I'm a prude lol)
Like you @Claymoreiron that episode was really sad.
The scene where she comes to after the GA made me cry.

It was sad. 😔

the sex I can do without though the constant shagging if a new relationship at that age seemed realistic. Though I can barely remember because I’m old! And a prude tbh. The mouth spit thing? Ugh.

CherryogDog · 14/07/2025 19:12

@Claymoreiron I don't like watching any sex scenes, I prefer it "implied" .
I really like Will Sharpe, he was so broken in Giri/Haji, totally tugged on my heart strings.
Anyway, hope to finish Too Much tonight.

Claymoreiron · 14/07/2025 20:19

I too like Will Sharpe. He’s a good actor. His characters in Giri/Haji v White Lotus and Too Much are all so different but very believable.

Brooklyn70 · 14/07/2025 21:31

I didn’t love it but would definitely watch a second season.

The main character is a bit too similar to Megan’s character in Hacks, but i love her in that so I didn’t mind it that much.

There are scenes that I always forward (dancing, singing in cars/showers, sex scenes that don’t advance the story), so i skipped the sex scenes.

There were choices i didn’t care for, like Andrew Scott’s weird voice, he could still be a dick with his normal voice.

Loved Naomi Watts though, I’ve always thought she’s a better actress than Nicole Kidman.

Also, can Jennifer Saunders ever play a normal person?

Would have liked to see more of Jessica’s work mates and less of his friends, I found the french girl insufferable.

makes me wonder if i should give Girls another go, I remember stopping in season 2 because i disliked them all so much.

CherryogDog · 15/07/2025 00:42

The dog 😭
The scene where Jessica was singing was lovely.
The friend's (Oreo?) wedding seemed like a bad copy of Four Weddings AAF.
I enjoyed it overall. Even if it could have been cut to 6 episodes if they'd left all the sex scenes out 😆

Claymoreiron · 15/07/2025 00:56

Felix is obviously the most interesting character.

Waferbiscuit · 15/07/2025 17:20

I'm on episode 8 and finding it painful. The main character is so incredibly obnoxious and irritating. Pointless story line. No 'narrative arc'. Will Sharpe has lowered himself for this one.

Lena if you're reading this - what happened?

HelenHywater · 15/07/2025 20:37

I'm quite enjoying it, mostly for the Will Sharpe character. I did find Starstruck funnier though. (haven't got to the sad bits yet, and not looking forward to awful Stephen Fry ).

MrsJamin · 17/07/2025 07:29

I adored Girls so was really looking forward to this. I liked some parts, she manages to write some fab intimate dialogue but I was surprised by the end tbh, I wondered where it was going towards the end.

Pollysoftheworld · 18/07/2025 07:28

I like it but the main character is so obviously Dunham that it all feels like a big ego fest. I imagine her writing it like ‘this is the part where my husband breaks up with his girlfriend as he’s falling in love with me!’

IjustbelieveinMe · 18/07/2025 08:37

I feel embarrassed I have recommended this when the main consensus is it’s awful! I liked it, but weird like that!

EmpressoftheMundane · 18/07/2025 19:42

To be fair, I stopped after the first episode.

Maybe I should persevere!

Loved it all. Apart from Felix’s out of character error of judgment/betrayal of Lena, I mean Jessica. Yeah yeah he’s complex and troubled, but really?
I’ve read some online questioning how ‘believable’ it is that Felix would be with ‘someone like Jessica’ 🙄 I found her adorable personally.

Newfigtree · 21/07/2025 05:55

I loved it so much. I want to rewatch the entire series again. Pure joy.
I liked all the cast. Couldn’t believe all the cameos. Like Kit Harrington? what was he doing on the show!
I feel like Lena must just have a million high profile friends and can rope in anyone to play any part.

Mikart · 21/07/2025 07:07

We are really enjoying it.

Sumshinebound · 22/07/2025 23:15

I loved it. I found myself surprised by how much I started to like the main female lead, as I found her a bit weird and meh at first. By the end I loved her and felix. Great acting and dealt with some difficult subject matter particularly re felix’s childhood. Im still a bit freaked out by what that nanny did or was implied to have done.

a great series

Newsenmum · 07/10/2025 20:46

Does she always do those facial expressions? I find them quite distracting!
