Do any children actually enjoy The Clangers?

It’s on CBeebies every night but I don’t know any children who watch it and I never see Clangers merchandise.

I guess I’m just wondering what it is about it that has it on seven days a week!

My DD is a pre teen now but used to love it so much. It’s very gentle. She also loved Abney & Teal. She had a whole Clangers play set with figurines too.

cramptramp · 06/07/2025 18:05

I remember when it first came out and I loved it.

PlasticAcrobat · 06/07/2025 18:05

Ooh, is it on CBeebies? I might very well start watching it. I'm 62 now but I remember adoring it in my childhood. Presumably it is the original stop-motion Clangers not some hideous modern re-creation?

MammaTo · 06/07/2025 18:08

So funny this pops up while my 2.5 year old is watching it for the first time mesmerised. It’s nice and slow for him to watch I think.

PlasticAcrobat · 06/07/2025 20:49

Slow is what I like about it. Most telly for small children back in the day was so very calm. It helped children to feel settled and grounded. Then it seemed to get much more frenetic and over-stimulating.

jocktamsonsbairn · 06/07/2025 21:08

I loved them back in the 70s and the Moomins

stample · 06/07/2025 21:14

My dc thought it was pants when they were younger but grandad made a whistle at work and when you blew it and moved the slider it sounded like the clangers!

EllieQ · 06/07/2025 21:15

Yes, my DD loved the Clangers from the ages of 3-5. We watched the new series, and some of the older episodes, and she had a Clangers play set with all the figures.

It was very gentle compared to other shows, which I liked. She also loved Abney and Teal. I miss those days!

It is a modern version, but it’s really lovely and captures the feel of the original. It’s narrated by Michael Palin.

swissrollisntswiss · 06/07/2025 21:20

Mine like it (5 & 2). 5yo probably outgrowing it now though

NW3Lady · 06/07/2025 21:24

I absolutely love it. Both the original and the CBeebies one. They take me back to my childhood. I am not however a child.

My DS aged 5 likes the CBeebies one. He’s never seen the original. It’s not his favourite but he will watch it.

TheFormidableMrsC · 06/07/2025 21:24

I loved them in the 70’s!

PeonyPanda · 06/07/2025 21:29

Mine loved it , and like the pps also loved Abney and Teal. Perfect end of day routine.

evtheria · 06/07/2025 21:33

My DS loved it*, I’ve kept a tiny wooden figurine set (it comes in a small tin!) for the memories.
It, along with the equally soothing Abney & Teal, signaled bedtime.

*the new, colourful one

crocodilesandwich · 06/07/2025 21:58

My 2 year old likes it. I’m also quite partial tbh!

MoreThanOverwhelmed · 06/07/2025 22:06

I miss watching this now my DC have outgrown it. It signalled the start of calming down for bed. There was something comforting about it.

Anna20MFG · 06/07/2025 22:22

Adored it. Also Bagpuss which we had on dvd 😍

CaspersMum24 · 06/07/2025 22:36

Just watched an episode now. Just gorgeous.

Cynic17 · 06/07/2025 22:51

I absolutely loved The Clangers as a child. It's a classic.

Fifthtimelucky · 06/07/2025 23:27

I also loved it as a child!

Flupflup · 06/07/2025 23:31

I loved the original Clangers in the 70s and have really enjoyed the recent version watching with my Granddaughter.

Kimwestonhelpless · 07/07/2025 01:44

Loved the original in the 70s
Watch it on YouTube sometimes
I'm 60😁🪐

spoonbillstretford · 07/07/2025 01:49

I didn't really enjoy it the odd time I saw the original series as a kid but thought it was sweet. I liked things like Bod, Chorlton and the Wheelies, Willo the Wisp, Henry's Cat and Dogtanian. In my 20s+ I found The Clangers endearing and hilarious.

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 07/07/2025 03:48

I loved how the original Clangers secretly swore with their whistling.

It's "new" (about 10 years old actually) but still uses stop motion as a base, although tweened and enhanced by CGI to get the animation smooth (the same thing Aardman does).
