Anyone watched 'Ideal' - Johnny Vegas comedy?

What did you think?

I didn't enjoy the first series all that much. The constant door-knocking and getting up and down pissed me off. Plus, I couldn't eat when I was watching it because it all looked so grubby.

A friend said that series 2 gets a bit sillier, and told me a few things that happen including new characters. I eye rolled. I hate silly, slapstick comedy but I'm really enjoying series 2. I love Judith.

Does it stay much the same? Does it get better? Does it get worse? What do people think of it?

Where are you watching it? I watched it when it came out and found it amusing, would love to watch it again.

Omg this is a blast from the past!

I loved Ideal! I don't think I ever watched it in order, just used to catch episodes randomly playing at 2am when I'd come home drunk.

Mouseface (or is it Mousehead?) was my favourite.

It's all on BBC i-player.

I love the early-00s vibes - no smartphones, no internet. And the clothes are epic. Maybe that changes in later series.

@BeADinosaur You're thinking of Cartoon Head.

I remember it getting a bit dark in later seasons. Definitely a blast from the past!

Love this show - so nostalgic but surreal at the same time! Deffo stick with it!

BunnyRuddington · 10/05/2025 04:58

Weirdly I’ve just started to rewatch Ideal a couple of weeks ago.

WiddlinDiddlin · 10/05/2025 05:26

I loved it... will have to watch it over again. Weird mix of surreal, farce, slapstick mostly I dislike the latter two but the surreal dark weirdiery makes it brilliant in places!

GrandTheftWalrus · 20/05/2025 01:17

I meant take him out clubbing!

SpikeGilesSandwich · 01/06/2025 23:13

This show is amazing, such a bizarre mix of surreal but also one of the most realistic programs I’ve ever seen.
the way they live and talk, the awful flat, the drugs etc. just so accurate and really reflects experiences from the early 2000’s for me.

WiddlinDiddlin · 02/06/2025 13:41

Yep I think thats why I loved it so much - I lived in scruffy bedsits and flats in North Manchester in the early 2000s.. between Ideal and Two Pints of Lager, my young adult era was well represented!

MissPrismsMistake · 02/06/2025 13:58

Oh, this is on my list of things to watch. I’ve found JV something of a creative genius, on radio as well as TV. But the lust is so long …

moto748e · 02/06/2025 15:19

Got it on DVD (remember them? 😀).

Cartoonhead, that was the fella!

Limth · 02/06/2025 16:03

I've just finished Series 5.

I'm falling a bit out of love with it, to be honest.
I loved the realistic grottiness of it all at first. As people said, very early-00s 😂

But now its descended into a bit of a catchphrase-based sketch show with a rotating parading of unrealistic and ridiculous characters.

I'm gutted.

I've just started rewatching, on series 2. It's still laugh out loud funny in parts. Nicky is vile though!!
