This is the first time we've ever had Apple tv , what do you recommend to watch drama or comedy drama wise, nothing slapstick though please ?
I definitely want to see Bad Sisters as I have seen the original and it was brilliant, other than that I have no clue what's worth watching.

Ooh I loved Bad Sisters! Enjoy
I got Apple TV for Ted Lasso which I loved, also dipped into The Morning Show but it didn't really hold my attention.
People seem to love Slow Horses too

There are a lot of things I’ve enjoyed on Apple TV. Below is my list

-Slow Horses. Amazing crime/thriller with Gary Oldman
-Platonic and The Studio. If you like Seth Rogans style of comedy then these two series are great
-Lessons In Chemistry. A drama set in 1960s I think with Brie Larson. A bit emotional but very good
-Your Friends and Neighbours. Relatively new but I’m enjoying it comedy/drama with Jon Hamm
-Shrinking. My absolutely favourite. Give this a couple of episodes but it’s a great watch with Jason Segal and Harrison Ford
-Dark Matter. This is sci fi with Joel Edgerton - a bit multi universe like but riveting
-Presumed Innocent. Jake Gyllenhal crime drama. Very good and twisty turny
-Bad Monkey. Vince Vaughn black comedy that had a few slow episodes but very enjoyable
-H/Jack. Idris Elba led action series that was fly by the seat of your pants stuff!
-The After Party. Comedy whodunnit with a great set of actors

Films
-Ghosted with Chris Evan’s is a comedy action which is an easy watch!
-Sharper is a really good twisty drama with Julianne Moore and Sebastian Stan
-The Banker is a feel good overcome adversity film with Anthony Mackie
-Still. A documentary with and by Michael J Fox that if you were a fan in the 80s is a must watch
-Greyhound. Tom Hanks plays Tom Hanks in a submarine but enjoyable with good cinematic set pieces
-The Family Plan with Mark Whalberg is an action comedy
-The year the earth changed. An interesting documentary film about Covid and the effect on the planet
-9/11 inside the presidents war room. Really interesting and different view of the events.

i think that’s a pretty exhaustive list but we use Apple TV a lot and have mostly enjoyed all of the content. It’s much more limited than Netflix etc but I find they have better stuff

and if you’re a sci fi fan there is masses on top of my list (Severence, foundations, invasion, silo…)

Bad sisters is amazing. I also really enjoyed slow horses and the silo. Prime target is worth a watch. I've been meaning to give severance a go.

skippy67 · 22/04/2025 12:54

Slow Horses.
I've just started Friends and Neighbours and like it so far.
Presumed Innocent.
Bad Sisters series 1, is brilliant.

chattyness · 22/04/2025 12:55

For All Mankind is a superb sci Fi drama set in an alternative timeline where the Soviet Union lands on the Moon before the USA. Really gripping.

Tootingbec · 22/04/2025 12:59

I’m enjoying Your Friends and Neighbours before my 3 month free subscription runs out. Also good is “We Crashed” about the founder of WeWork - jaw dropping in places

Prime Target is a bit shit but I persevered because Leo Woodall is very easy on the eye 😂

Oniranu · 22/04/2025 13:03

SEVERANCE and SILO! actually all Apple TV series are really really top quality!

Member984815 · 22/04/2025 13:34

I'm watching your friends and neighbours, really enjoying it

Oblongofdreams · 22/04/2025 13:39

Severance
Slow Horses
Bad Monkey
Presumed Innocent
For All Mankind
The Studio

FuckedOverByBuilder · 22/04/2025 17:59

Oh yes, We Crashed is absolutely madness and even more so because it’s sort of based on what really happened.

Tetris is also a good movie with Taron Edgerton sort of based on fact

TheCatsTongue · 22/04/2025 19:27

Severance and then cancel as there is nothing else on it.

stample · 22/04/2025 19:41

Silo. A different kind of series, interesting and always makes me want to keep watching it. Eps are about an hour long and there’s 2 seasons.

Windywuss · 22/04/2025 19:48

Great: Slow Horses/ Severance/ the Morning Show

Good: Shrinking/ Bad Sisters

Ok: Essex Serpent/Presumed Innocent

Dull and didn't finish: Prime Target

Windywuss · 22/04/2025 19:49

Oh and the Steve Martin documentary is fantastic

chattyness · 22/04/2025 20:16

thanks every one who has commented so far, please keep them coming, anything Australian to recommend? I haven't found anything yet

Not had it long, but so far enjoyed (order best to last).

Slow Horses
Severence (first two episodes are a bit 🤔 but it gets better)
Dark Matter
Criminal Record
Prime Target (not bad if you just accept it for what it is)

I think with Netflix, Apple etc, they tend to have their own style of bread and butter shows and I think with Apple the shows look good, but the characters can be a bit beige. I'm not sure what is missing from them. They could do with being a bit more quirky. Maybe i just havent watched the more interesting stuff yet. Slow Horses and severence stand out as different and interesting to watch though. Severence is something very unique and I think people will still talk about it in the future.

Netflix's bread and butter shows are those awful Harlan Coben adaptions with dodgy scripts and everyone lives in a mansion. I think if you like Sci-Fi and something a bit more visually stylish Apple is definitely better. Netflix is a real mixed bag.

chattyness · 01/05/2025 23:55

Thanks everyone for your suggestions, we have only found one thing we've enjoyed so far which is Your Friends and Neighbours , everything else we've tried had been absolute
rubbish
