Normal People Removed from iPlayer?

GNTDND · 21/04/2025 11:35

I thought I'd finally start watching it, I was on episode 3 at nearly 4am. I just thought I'd watch a bit more and I can't find it on iPlayer. Any links to open it on iPlayer don't come up with anything in the app.

Anyone else had this?

If so, where else can you watch it for free?

How weird. Same for me, there yesterday but gone today.

iPlayer people, if you’re listening, please let us sort programmes by time left before they vanish.

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 21/04/2025 11:39

So are the earlier seasons of great British menu 😞

AbiJane · 21/04/2025 11:50

How strange. I’ve been rewatching it over the past week or so but can see it’s disappeared. How frustrating if you’re in the middle of it! Seems as though you can pay to watch on Apple TV.

tennissquare · 21/04/2025 19:29

This is so upsetting as it's my comfort watch! It's 5 years on Saturday since it was released on iPlayer, I just loved it and know most of the script off by heart and regularly listen to my playlist of the soundtrack. #Connell's chain.

CalypsoCuthbertson · 21/04/2025 19:31

Oh sad. Conversations With Friends is still on there - another really good Sally Rooney adaptation.

GNTDND · 21/04/2025 21:41

It's so annoying as there wasn't any warning to say it was being removed today when I watched it (as far as I could see anyway) as I wouldn't have started it.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get into Conversations With Friends at all.

Any other recommendations with the same kind of feel as Normal People?

I'm sure it's linked to it being released 5 years ago this week, hopefully it will pop up on another platform by the weekend like Years and Years appeared on Netflix last week.

CalypsoCuthbertson · 21/04/2025 22:04

Ah shame. I always muddle Francis and Marianne in my head as they’re very similar characters!

Have you tried Everything I Know About Love or Fleabag on iPlayer? Both similar coming-of-age type dramas, but lighter feel than Normal People.

Or Modern Love on Amazon?

TheLarkAscendingRose · 22/04/2025 14:18

I had that happen with Not Without My Daughter. I was watching it one evening and thought I'd finish it the next day, but the next day i needed to subscribe to a new channel to finish it instead of it being free to me on amazon prime. I didn't bother

TheTigerWhoCameToBrunch · 22/04/2025 14:19

No!!! It’s on my “to watch” list

JaninaDuszejko · 22/04/2025 14:23

One Day on Netflix has a similarish feel.

FurForksSake · 02/06/2025 09:55

Literally just went to watch it as my comfort watch and it’s gone. Hope it will turn up on Netflix.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 06/06/2025 17:45

Don't they notify you when a show is being taken off air? That's naughty and other shows similar aren't going to cut it because you are invested in this one.

tennissquare · 27/07/2025 19:21

Normal People is now on Disney plus.

I really enjoyed Mixtape on iPlayer that is similar.

goudacheese · 27/07/2025 19:29

Normal People is due to arrive on Netflix, 3 August I think.

NewDogOwner · 27/07/2025 22:23

I saw it is about to land on Netflix.

GNTDND · 30/07/2025 23:28

Thank you for the posts letting me know, I'll be having a watch when it arrives on Netflix instead.

I guess it was contractual reasons that it was removed from iPlayer but just wished there would have been a clearer warning at the time.

I think it’s back on iPlayer again now - I’m pretty sure I saw it earlier.

Yeah usually there's a "blahdy blah leaving soon.." isn't there? I can't watch it again, too intense & sad

Don't get me started on the other one, what's it called?

something strangers 💔

OneNeatBlueOrca · 31/07/2025 01:20

It's a good show, but i'm not sure how it's a comfort watch
Marianne is pretty horribly abused by her family including her brother and then she transfers her poor relationship patterns to her romantic world. Connell treats her like dirt and then she ends up in that abusive relationship in sweden

I'd not call it a comfort watch

OneNeatBlueOrca · 31/07/2025 01:20

I'm also annoyed. It's turning up on netflix, which is paid for when it's been available to watch for free for years

Where were you watching it for free? We pay more for our TV license than for Netflix.

snemrose · 31/07/2025 08:34

It is on my iplayer so don’t know if they took it off then put it back but it’s definitely there now

tennissquare · 31/07/2025 09:33

Yes it's back on IPlayer, that's good as I don't like the adverts I have on my Disney plus package.
There must have been a rights issue and there is now a new agreement.

I can't find any of these on i-player. When I look for dramas, only about 8 things come up and they are all grim thrillers or historical dramas. Where do you find these?
