The Cops - BBC iPlayer

I dont remember this at the time it was first shown - some years ago.

Apparently the police who had cooperated with the first series were so upset at the way they were shown they no longer worked with the programme makers for the next 2 series.

Its filmed in a way that is meant to be naturalistic I think. (Inspired by Hill Street Blues?)

I found it interesting because apart from the clothes many of the issues the police in the series have to deal with are still the ones they have are dealing with today.

So once you get over the fashion shock, this workplace approach is quite interesting.

The Cops

No punches pulled. The multi-award-winning provocative police drama that broke new ground, starring John Henshaw and Katy Cavanagh.

Sorry if I have misunderstood but it’s a comedy show isn’t it?

IwantToRetire · 14/04/2025 01:21

Why would you think it is a comedy when I compared it to Hill Street Blues.

It is difficult to adjust to how everyone dresses and talks, but that doesnt make it a comedy!

This link might explain it better than I have https://rts.org.uk/article/comfort-classic-cops

(Although to agree the posed photos to make it look like its a bit of a wind up!)

Comfort Classic: The Cops

Matthew Bell revels in a gritty warts-and-all police drama. And these Plods have warts to spare…

How strange. MNHQ would let me quote WBMBL as it thought I was being rude or something!
