If you missed this charming female centric comedy from the 1990s, it is available on Youtube to watch free. I watched it first time around and loved it.

You can see so clearly that The Detectorists owes much to this series.
It was written by French and Saunders and stars many of the female comics from the 1990s.
It is utterly comforting and joyous.

The 1990s? It was 2006 - 9 I think!

Absolutely wonderful, every single episode.

I loved the bereavement counsellor (Rosie Cavaliero) and the bit where she showed her wedding video to everyone, and the bit where Caroline (Jennifer Saunders) is stressing about her son in the Army.

Whoever cancelled it (it wasn’t Jennifer Saunders) should be sacked and sent somewhere far away.

Sorry, I guessed the date. There are a few mentions of mobile phones but not smart phones.
I wrote to the BBC when they cancelled it because it was so focused on women in a small rural community.
Do you not think it was a for runner of The Detectorists?

The Detectorists is very similar in that it’s a ‘small world’ with ‘small lives’ (not meaning that in a rude sense at all) and the rich things that fill daily lives.

I was thinking earlier today that a big plot, a twist, an explosive climax are all very entertaining but I much prefer the smallness of these type of programmes and books. Rich and fulfilling lives happen in boring places.

Just looked at the Channel, what a great resource! TFS.

I've rewatched this so many times I practically know the script! I love everything about it, it's the ultimate in comfort viewing for me.
