Why does Dylan from Brassic keep talking in a hushed voice with lots of pauses when he’s playing Jim Bergerac. Irritating

bergerac always sounds like james mason breeeath

We've watched all 6 episodes and it was dire. Won't be watching a second series. So many things changed from the original. If you're going to change characters' race, sex etc just make them a new character.

Awful.

Yogachick · 23/03/2025 17:40

@RaraRachael I’m glad it’s not just me thinking that. It’s an epic failure

@Yogachick the scenery was the best thing about it 😁

MarkingBad · 23/03/2025 19:21

I'm watchng it the slow old fashioned way and I've got round the confusion of all the deviations from the original by thinking of his as Jim Bergerac's son and not Jim Bergerac himself

TeenToTwenties · 23/03/2025 19:22

I enjoyed it.
Similar but different from the original.
Lovely Jersey views we enjoyed spotting.

channelislander · 23/03/2025 19:33

Everyone's been watching it over here in the Channel Islands for pretty obvious reasons. Though I agree that the scenery is definitely the best part of the show, I may be biased!

Perhaps I'm just getting sick of these "take a whole series to solve one crime" dramas where more than half the show is about the detective's personal life. Not that everything has to be Death in Paradise, but it makes a series like this feel incredibly slow when really I'd love to see more stories, not to mention a bit more of the island and culture! Besides the familiar views, so far it feels like it could be set in any small town on the coast. I'm hoping if we get another series that might be less of an issue simply by way of seeing more places and meeting more characters, though.

I was hoping it would stand out from the crowd a little, I guess, and it seems to have fallen into the exact same formula as so many other crime dramas of the last few years. I'll give a second series a go, if it gets one, but even with the local interest factor it would have to change quite a lot to keep me engaged.

RaraRachael · 23/03/2025 19:49

I much preferred the old format of one crime solved per week rather than a running story.

I didn't really take to the Bergerac character. At the start of ?episode 4 he was standing at a flip chart absolutely ranting at 100mph. I couldn't help laughing at him.

NewMoonontuesday · 23/03/2025 23:54

I remember actor as Hal from being human. I enjoyed it, but I can’t remember the original was only a child when started.
But I am going to watch the old show again.

Crudd99 · 23/03/2025 23:57

He sounds like he's got cotton wool in his mouth so I can't watch it .

Ellmau · 24/03/2025 00:05

I watched the first episode and decided it was too bland and generic to bother with.

Therealmetherealme · 24/03/2025 06:09

I enjoyed it. I expected each episode to be a separate story rather than one long one, but it was easy watching.

TeenToTwenties · 24/03/2025 07:29

I agree with @channelislander there wasn't anything really specific about Jersey in the plot which was a shame.

Newgirls · 26/03/2025 21:10

Quite liked it. Good cast and some good lines and didn’t guess the end. Not perfect as some of it was corny but I’d watch more

Not2identifying · 03/04/2025 22:59

I watched one episode per week, tonight was the finale. I prefer one crime to one or two episodes so this was a slow burn but I did keep watching. I agree that they should have Jersey itself play a bigger part, and not just as a backdrop.

deeahgwitch · 04/04/2025 00:06

I watched all 6 episodes but I use subtitles and they weren’t done well. I found some of it difficult to hear but got the gist of it.
i’m not sure I’d watch a second series because of the subtitles issue.
