Has anyone started this? It's the number 1 show on Disney this week and stars Stephen Graham and written by Steven Knight.
I'm just starting and wondering how violent it will be as I'm not a fan of boxing (in the 19th century)!

So glad there is a thread about this! Watched 3 episodes and love it, the setting the acting is all spot on. I didn't think it's that violent though there was one particular bit that I couldn't watch

tennissquare · 26/02/2025 20:55

Erin Doherty js exceptional in this.

I'm in, binge watching 🙈

I just finished- I loved it!! Cannot wait for the next ones to come out. I read all 12 episodes were filmed together so shouldn't be too long to wait

I've finished this now too and will watch the next 6 episodes when they are released. As I've said Erin Doherty is captivating.

I lost interest - was less captivated by the later episodes than the first few. Erin Dogherty was superb though, agree. I’d like more of her and less boxing

I’m going to binge this next weekend. Writer wrote Peaky Blinders, my favourite series ever, ever, ever! It’s had amazing reviews, and like Peaky, based on real characters and events.

I'm really enjoying this but....

Erin Doherty/Mary Carr.... the character looks/acts/sounds like Jay out of the inbetweeners to me 🙈. I cant unsee it now! Still like watching it though.

Just keep waiting for a Jay type jokes to sneak in whenever she is on screen!

MrsPeterHarris · 09/03/2025 20:49

I'm on the last episode - enjoying it but find the boxing a bit too much, especially Sugar!

LemograssLollipop · 10/03/2025 02:20

Noticed David Olusoga was an exec producer and he is a historian. Is the series based in reality?
Love Mary Carr character

Sixpence39 · 10/03/2025 05:23

@LemograssLollipop The characters are real people. Mary Carr and the 40 Elephants all female gang, the Goodson brothers, and the Jamaican boxers. But the actual storyline isn't real and some of the character timelines are a bit altered e g Sugar Goodson is 'old' in the show but would have been 20s at the time it's set. Great show, loved it!
