Why have they changed the characters? I'm gutted! How can they replace the lovely Tommy Ball with a Scotsman?! No offence Gregor Fisher! I'm aware Tommy died irl, but he was Lancastrian, not Scottish! It was even referred to in series one! Lyn was played by Maggie Steed in the first series and now it's Michelle Dotrice!
Why bother at all? (And no explanation about Simon and Donna splitting up, now he's turned up engaged to Esther!)

This series is even better than the first!
I'm sure you'll enjoy it 🙂

I love this. This second series isn't new though.

I enjoyed this - I don't think it's the kind of programme that sits neatly in one particular genre, but I find it compelling viewing.

I was a bit put out with the changing actors and characters too, though - especially so many at once. I said the same re replacing Bobby Ball with Gregor Fisher - I absolutely love Gregor, and bringing him in as a new character would have been a brilliant addition; but the two accents are starkly different and thus make it hard to reconcile as both being Ray. Could they not have asked Tommy Cannon?!

Sue's repeated comments about Esther's 'lovely legs' were seriously weird, though.

I watched 2/3rds of the first episode of series 2 and found it very dull. It’s a new series for me and when I saw Gregory Fisher in it I was rather surprised even though I’m Scottish - he stuck out like a sore thumb and seemed to be in the wrong series

MoonWoman69 · 30/01/2025 07:22

Oh I'll persevere with it, but as @Weepixie says, Gregor Fisher stuck out like a sore thumb! He doesn't even have the same personality as Bobby Ball played as Ray!
And I thought the constant remarks about Esthers legs was odd too, but then Sue is a bit odd! 🤣

At times, Gregor seemed to be playing the same character he plays in the glorious Only Child.

Esther seems too nice imho - quite a people-pleaser.

She needs to learn that No is a complete sentence, a request to help is an invitation not a summons, stop ever answering the door and get her ducks in a row.

I knew there'd be a MN thread about this. I was in stitches in S1 even though I had watched it before but S2 seems odd and the new characters are taking some getting used to. They don't act like Simon and Esther have visited before bearing in mind he's engaged to be married.

SandraSprocket · 08/02/2025 18:31

I love this. I don't think Esther is a people pleaser, she's being diplomatic.
