Best detective/police/medical tv show?

Looking for a tv show that has lots of series. Mainly something to watch when I'll be breastfeeding/up during the night etc Smile I have Netflix, Disney and Prime (although I hate the ads!). Please let me know your recommendations. The only thing I've watched of that genre is Scrubs which I really liked but looking for something a bit different/less comedy Smile

Only murders in the building on Disney plus is brilliant

Fannyannie · 26/01/2025 16:33

Loads of the above

just watched Slow Horses - 4 seasons Gary Oldman is a legend ! 🔥❤️

lighthearted Doc Martin and Motherland 🩷

would love to watch all of Greys Anatomy but it’s very daunting the volume of series

Naicethings · 26/01/2025 16:45

The Shield. Hands down for me the best ever US police drama. Loved The Wire, but The Shield is the one show I absolutely loved. I envy anyone who is watching it for the first time. Think you can stream all episodes on Prime

RitaFromTheRanch · 26/01/2025 16:57

Accused on Netflix is brilliant

PandoraFrontier · 26/01/2025 19:59

Oh yes forgot about slow horses!

also unforgotten really is excellent, and loved line of duty too.

station 19 I hated.

PandoraFrontier · 26/01/2025 20:00

Oh I didn’t mind private practice though. Spinoff of greys.

Businessflake · 26/01/2025 20:06

ER - best ever

just started watching high potential, cheesy but good

Angrymum22 · 26/01/2025 20:32

“NCIS” funny and entertaining if you don’t want dark.
”Criminal Minds”
“Wire in the blood” was good.
“Bones” nothing like the books it was based on which are a great read.
We’ve watched a couple of good Irish series recently.
”Unforgotten”
“Dalziel & Pascoe”
”Shakespeare & Hathaway” and “Father Brown” are of a similar style.
“The Blacklist” although it does get a bit “Lost” as the series progresses.

Disney is good for long running series.

Janedoe82 · 26/01/2025 21:13

Blue Lights on Iplayer. Only two series but they are filming a third.
also Say Nothing on Disney.

We wrote nearly the same post lol.
I first watched The Shield during Covid, and it was the best thing I'd seen in years. I've rewatched the whole lot twice since. I'm surprised at how many people haven't seen it.

Souredgrapes · 26/01/2025 23:14

Strike on iplayer . The main characters are so good together .

CaptainBeanThief · 27/01/2025 19:15

Another vote for Brooklyn 99,
8 seasons, I'm seaons 4, very funny and easy watching !

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 27/01/2025 19:18

I love er, so ahead of its time! I've rewatched it recently and I still felt very relevant, the only thing that aged it was the technology, no mobile phones in the early series and the computers are massive!

ScaryM0nster · 27/01/2025 19:21

New Amsterdam.

it’s basically a modern ER and same level of intellect.

Not what you asked for, but below deck was excellent breastfeeding chewing gum.

UnalliterativeGeorge · 27/01/2025 19:23

Bones!

Louisetopaz21 · 27/01/2025 19:24

Bones and castle

Notgoodatpoetrybutgreatatlit · 27/01/2025 19:32

Death in Paradise. Just for Don Warrington alone. I've loved watching him since Rising Damp.
A reality one on c4 I think it's called Night cops it's in Brighton. So brilliant. There is one episode when the cops smash into someone's actual shop to rescue a fox. The fox is scared of the cops so hides, they won't give up! They call a colleague who is from the countryside to find and carry the fox out to the safety of the streets. And he does, he literally carries the fox out of the smashed in door. It's beyond satire and it's real. So funny. The cops say they are sorry about the damage but they obviously couldn't leave the fox trapped. I loved it.

MayfairRose · 29/01/2025 16:02

Marcella SE1 ✔️

Marcella SE2 - grim, skip

Marcella SE3 - hilariously bad

Latenightreader · 29/01/2025 16:06

Ohnonotmeagain · 26/01/2025 15:13

ER. Incomparable.

st elsewhere as well for a proper 80’s OG with racism, AIDS etc.

code black is more recent.
the resident if you like pretty people.

i watched something of a mix recently, medical but turned into a police drama. British. Irish lead. Will think.

Edited

St Elsewhere is criminally unappreciated - so many people haven't heard of it these days. The cast is stellar, it tackles some really tough issues, and there is humour in there too. If you can find it, watch it! It ran so ER could fly.
