I love this programme but the maidenhead episode filmed in Jan 24 has compelled me to post for some reassurance … having just spent approx £25 k on a kitchen project (only a wickes kitchen - main cost was building work) i was depressed at the amount of work the couple had had done at £28k!! Our project didn’t involve knocking down any walls or the extent of work the couple had done - some building work and a downstairs loo/ utility … please tell me they get builders with major discounts before i lose anymore sleep!????

That's a lot of there wasn't much building work. Did they have to do a lot of digging for pipes etc?

Was that the one where the husband lost the plot and gutted the house resulting in them losing money. I said to DH he totally cocked it up. The wife was right about everything.

We had a similar discussion. We were quoted £150k for a project involving a small kitchen extension, bifold doors and knocking down a wall but were told it wouldn't add anywhere near that in value so scaled back the work. That couple spent £100k (for a similar kitchen project to ours plus other works in the house) and added something like double the cost in value, with a clear £90k profit! We couldn't believe it!

Last night's episode hit the jackpot.

@LittleMonks11 We had a bit of rewiring as fitted a new range - quite a bit of floor levelling so floors were taken up, new doors, lights etc and radiators but no walls taken out … the building work ifself was around £16000 … the rest was for the kitchen … we are near london but so was the Maidenhead project .. i think they must get some serious discounts but it gives people false hope of what they can achieve these days for that money! Its just a programme but drove me insane!! Not sure if we are talking about the same episode …

@Readysetgooo im glad its not me that its driven insane - do the builders they use get mentioned? They must do the work for such a discount? And maybe for the programme the valuations are on the positive side …??

@Ponymadchild I'm not sure they do get a mention but then I've never looked too closely at the credits or website, there's certainly nothing obvious in the show. I do remember one episode where it was mentioned the couple had difficulty getting builders and had several crazy quotes which impacted the timeline and budget so it doesn't sound like they do get support but who knows. I imagine they get a couple of valuations and go with the most positive one for the show but surely they don't inflate them beyond that. Still can't believe last night's outcome though! If they could do that for us, sign me up!
