All of my children and I love the annual Julia Donaldson film on Christmas Day.
Which book would you like to see adapted in 2025?
This house hold would love to see 'The Smartest Giant in Town' or 'The Scarecrows' Wedding'

I would love Monkey Puzzle! And we really like her new one ‘Jonty Gentoo’ but equally the Scarecrows wedding would be so good!

I was disappointed with Tiddler, I find the book hard going haha

CouchSpud · 18/01/2025 21:04

Ooh yes, they’re smartest giant in town!!…

My son is now 15 and we still watch the series each christmas!

I also still have the hardback books from when he was little 🥰

SushiWarrior · 18/01/2025 21:05

Agree with ‘The Smartest Giant in Town’ but would also like ‘The Ugly Five’

I started the post but now I want to change my answer... I love Monkey Puzzle 🤣

Tiddler is the BEST. The book scans so well in a Midlands accent compared to some of the others.

Smartest giant would be great, also Charlie Cook.

Hercisback1 · 18/01/2025 21:06

A squash and a squeeze but only if they did the song, the song is fab.

Noodlesnotstrudels · 18/01/2025 21:06

We like the smartest giant in town too. I feel like monkey puzzle would be a lot of filler to get it to 20mins long.

My favourite so far has been snail and the whale - so calming.

I agree, it's beautiful but it's the one my children never choose! They all loved Tabby McTat and The Highway Rat.

I do think some of their recent ones have not been as good. The Ugly Five and The Baddies are terrible and Jonty Gentoo is not good either.
I wish Magic Light would look at some other books to adapt. There are so many amazing children's books which would be brilliant to adapt. How about the Blue Kangaroo stories? Or Plumdog? Or The Lion Inside series?

I always this Charlie Cook is such a simple but brilliant concept.

My DD is only 3.5y and finds highway rat a bit scary in the cave part. Maybe that's why i can persuade her for snail and the whale more often!

Hercisback1 · 18/01/2025 21:08

I think the Oi Frog series would work well by Magic Light too. You're right about branching out a bit.

The baddies is OK, I struggle with the Ugly Five.

PickAChew · 18/01/2025 21:09

DS2 (severely autistic young adult) is obsessed with this and constantly trying to guess. Someone kept putting a rumour on Wikipedia, last year, that it would be Smartest Giant in Town and DH kept editing it out again as unsubstantiated! DS2 is convinced it will be Jonty Gentoo, this year, though I've tried to explain to him that it's too new.

Tipperttruck · 18/01/2025 21:10

I hate the ugly five. I wish they'd provide a score for the song! I struggle with that a bit with tabby mctat too but do love that one.

I wish they'd branch out and give some new talent a go. Rob brydon is surely rich enough now?

SushiWarrior · 18/01/2025 21:11

@Noodlesnotstrudels my 2 year old is obsessed with the highway rat. He makes me act it out with him (he will sneak up on me and say ‘stand and deliver’ ‘give me your sweets and your cakes’) and he loves the cave bit. 😂
He isn’t as keen on the snail and the whale, but I enjoy it! lol

DS2 keeps suggesting charlie cook but it's quite long and a complex structure and I can't see it translating to a preschool friendly 20 minute animation very well.

mummymummymummummum · 18/01/2025 21:12

We’d love The Smartest Giant in Town. My 8 year still listens to that as her going to sleep background noise 💜

Tabby McCat was another favourite.

I know both off by heart!

It's the same with The Smartest Giant in Town.... what does it sound like when he sings to himself about all of the things he's given to the animals?!

The yoto cards are very handy for finding out the tunes to the songs 😅

We love the Zog song in our house!

iwillfghhjjj · 18/01/2025 21:48

What the ladybird heard 🐞

IDontDrinkTea · 18/01/2025 21:50

The singing mermaid would be lovely. Or what the ladybird heard

Yes, this! It’s our favourite.

Greeneyegirl · 18/01/2025 21:51

Tiddler isnt much of a story as a book so we didn't like the adaptation. I think scarecrows wedding would be great

Don't get the Charlie cook love! It's something and nothing that book.

MarchingInto2025 · 18/01/2025 21:53

Can't believe some of you don't like the ugly 5, I think the message in that one is beautiful and so resonated with me when I read it to the DC as little ones. I definitely felt ugly a lot with no time to make myself look nice but the DC always would tell me I was beautiful and reading the ugly 5 helped me see things through their eyes ❤️

We do have all the audiobooks but the DC prefer a 5-6 hour running story rather than the 5 mins Julia Donaldsons 😣
