I love Dracula (both film and book) and had high hopes for this from trailer/cast but I was really disappointed. Was anyone else? I liked the style of the film, but felt that the story was rather weak Sad I really like vampire stories (not Twilight though😂) so feel extra disappointed.

I thought it was pretty good. I enjoyed the end and the reason why Count Orlok was trying to find her.

Choccyscofffy · 13/01/2025 22:02

I loved it! But I also loved Bram Stoker’s Dracula!

purplespink · 13/01/2025 22:18

@OppsUpsSide that was one of the things I didn't like! I like romance but he admitted that he can't love her but wants her because when she was a teenager she pledged herself to him.

SPOILER

Count Orlok says ‘I am appetite’, and that encapsulates who he is. Even at the end, he is consumed with being drunk on blood and just doesn’t care about anything or anyone else.

I enjoyed it. It was very traditional, a remake that was very true to the original.

LuluBlakey1 · 13/01/2025 23:19

I thought it was dreadful- all of it. The stereotyping , exploitation/weak portrayals of women.
Lily Depp was appalling in every way.
Hackneyed, rubbish with decent cinematography.

What's the point of that. Multi-millions spend creating something that was just a version of the original with more up to date cinematography. It was drab and dull, hackneyed and slow.

It was crap.

We saw it at the cinema. Prior to seeing it we streamed the earlier 2 versions. DS - the film buff extraordinaire - gave it 3 stars, DH and I rated it 2 stars.

There's some good acting with a very hammy script. There's some good cinematography but with a Hammer Horror vibe fighting that. The distinctive voice of Ralph Ineson - narrator of Salvage Hunters - had me wondering why I didn't recognise the actor's face.

At the cinema the film is preceded by some truly revolting trailers for horror nonsense I have no intention of watching if I can avoid it.

The original is so much cleverer and subtle

I was really disappointed. I’d been looking forward to seeing it. I hated the ending. It all got very silly.
