Ok I know I am a million years behind. I know most people started in 2011 but I was still watching Lost. I started properly in 2016 when my DS was born and I was on Maternity leave. Then I got side tracked and had a break and never went back. So this year in 2024 at the start of the year I thought right i am
going to rewatch it from the beginning!

I just finished the last 2 episodes this morning. Got emotional when Rosita died - I am assuming she got bit?

but I feel like from watching the whole thing it was it was about 4-5 seasons too long. I the beginning, I really enjoyed finding about about the characters- their back stories and the relationships between them. But once Negan’s group came in, then Alpha and the whisperers, then the commonwealth -it just became about groups taking over and overpowering other groups, killing each other and zombies.

most shocking moments for me - Andrea’s sister getting shot in the head - didn’t see it coming. Also people getting their throats at that trough in the sanctuary. It’s not really explained why? Glen getting beaten to death with that bat.

I do have some questions:

where does Rick go on that helicopter?

why did Shane turn into a zombie without getting bit?

I can’t answer your questions as I stopped watching a few years ago for the exact reasons you mentioned- when it became less about the zombie apocalypse and a hunt for safety and more about gang violence.

How did it end though? Generally speaking. Did they just find a way to live among the zombies or did they find civilisation?

I also started in 2016 on maternity leave but only made it to the end of season 5. I’m impressed with your dedication rewatching from the beginning!

the survivors do rebuild their community like they have in Alexandria- with their motto saying we are the ones who live. Daryl survives and goes off on his bike the lane the way for his own series. Micchone is still searching for Rick. Rick gets picked up by the helicopter. Negan goes off on his own but it does not really say where. I think he is in the spin off series.

Re Shane, when the group were at the CDC the scientist told Rick that everyone is infected, so you don't need to have been bitten to turn.

Sanctuary was run by cannibals, hence the throat slitting.
Carol rescuing them was for me the best episode ever.

Not being funny OP but I think you have missed big chunks to have those sort of questions. Perhaps the stopping and starting didn't help 🤷🏻‍♀️

Rosita got bit protecting her daughter.
The throat slitting was because terminus was a cannibalistic camp of survivors.
Shane became a zombie without getting bit because of the big reveal at the end of series 1 from Doctor Jenner that everyone becomes a zombie when they die, nothing to do with getting bit.
Rick's fate is revealed in The Ones Who Live spin off. Missed Rick when he left and think the show was poorer for losing him.

I also came late to TWD, binge watched the lot earlier this year. Miss it so much as the best thing I've seen in a long while. Have also watched Fear The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon and The Ones Who Lived.

Yes Carol going all bad ass and rescuing the group from the cannibals was one of the best episodes ever.

Also the other thing that annoyed me is Maggie was in the early stages of pregnancy, then she disappeared, and then she returned having given birth to Hershel?
