I'm not saying I'm keen but I could see a thread for this year so thought I'd get one started.

Anyone watch the Xmas special? I found it too hard to guess who was under the mask just based on one or two songs...

I dont think MP ever had such macho swagger.. i remember him as cheeky but a bit wet. ( Grin unintended pun there)

I agree - more cheeky chappy than sexy swagger. Never my cup of tea!

I had a brainwave about Bear and Vicky McClure on the panel for the show...

Bear is Adrian Dunbar who was in Kiss Me Kate last year at the Barbican. Kiss Me Kate features a touring theatre company. Vicky didn't recognise his voice, but she did go to see him in KMK, I follow her on Instagram.

Same here. JD has played Frank-N-Furter in the Rocky Horror Picture Show and can act.

If I were Adrian Dunbar I'd be wanting people to forget I was ever in Kiss Me Kate and I'd be very wary about bigging up my singing voice.

He's not Pru Leith, he's a competent singer, but he was massively outclassed on a big stage, live, standing next to actual musical theatre pros.

That aside, I can see the appeal for the producers of potentially unmasking him in front of Viccy so it makes a kind of sense.

I watched the Full Monty with Robert Carlyle the other day and he had so much charm in that film ( playing a not very nice character)
He is slim and I could see him as a wolf

He was also in Once upon a time. Fairy tales.

I thought Jason Donovan purely on the swagger.

MabelMora · 06/01/2025 00:43

I never thought I'd see the words Jason Donovan and swagger in the same sentence.
Would love it to be Billy idol, my teenage crush.

Billy Idol or Marti Pellow I hope !

Twonewcats · 06/01/2025 08:19

I'm sure Bush is Charlie Dimmock, although the clues are maybe too obvious.

Could be Kelly Brook???

I think any of those eighties pop singers could do a note for note impression of Bowie singing Let's Dance without even practicing: they all idolised him. So that gives us a large lineup to choose from (I still want it to be Bill Nighy though).

OneBadKitty · 06/01/2025 09:29

I'm sure wolf is David Tennant. He did a little appearance last year which I've just rewatched- reading a fairytale as a clue and there was a wolf in the background!

Yes, Wolf's body language does bear a strong relationship to David Tennant as Crowley in Good Omens: where he was basically channeling Bill Nighy, so that would explain why I'm getting BN vibes. It makes a lot of sense.

Tennant is crazy busy though. Would he even have the time?

QueenOfThorns · 06/01/2025 09:45

David Tennant is a skinny bloke, whereas Wolf is a bit thicker in the middle! Billy Idol is nearly 70, btw, do you think he still has that swagger?

Hopefully next time he won’t be doing a Bowie impersonation so it’ll be easier, but how about Tony Hadley? I can’t find the video of the group song now, but I got Hadley vibes from the bit he did in that.

the80sweregreat · 06/01/2025 10:15

They do change their singing style over time , so the ones that ' sound American ' might not as much if they stay in it.

WhoseThatBehindTheFlask · 06/01/2025 10:25

The defo do! And anyone with a distinctive natural singing voice tends to deliberately try to sound not like themselves - hence the wolf sounding like Bowie. Makes me suspicious that we'd all really know their natural voice if they used it.

I'm another who has a bit of a crush on Wolf and hoping I'm not disappointed.

I was thinking how the hell could that voice be Marti Pellow, then I remembered him doing a cover of Elvis' In The Ghetto and his deeper range and 'impression' of Elvis voice was incredible, so it's got me wondering about the brilliant David Bowie number. I would rather it was Billy Idol, though. Billy absolutely still has the swagger at 69. Plenty of rock stars that age still do.

JaneJeffer · 06/01/2025 10:34

Any chance it could be Bryan Adams? Purely going on the "take me as I am" clue which is seared into all our brains!

I don't think so, but I see where you're coming from. I can't hear his voice at all and I've seen him live loads. Having said that, who knows.

I've gone down a Paul Weller rabbit hole now though as all the clues fit. (Or maybe I'm just making them fit)

I do think the Bishops hat is a red herring as I think it signifies a mitre (as in one you'd use to cut and measure, not religious headwear)

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 06/01/2025 11:30

I know it doesn't matter now because she's been unmasked, but Judi Dench can actually sing so no way was she going to be Pegasus. She's got an interesting voice with flaws, but she can hold a proper tune. Prue, bless her, tried hard.

I'm really not sure about anyone else. Need them to start letting their attempts to disguise their voices slip.

I thought Charlie Dimmock at first, but then thought she sounded like Natalie Cassidy when singing. God knows how the clues fit NC though.

the80sweregreat · 06/01/2025 11:52

I really can't see Paul Weller doing this somehow ! His just too cool
( I'm usually wrong )

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 06/01/2025 11:54

Whenever someone unexpected does it I presume they have a tax bill due. I'm sure it doesn't pay loads, but every little helps!

DefinitelyMaryBerry · 06/01/2025 11:55

Having said that I'd be amazed if it was Paul Weller. If nothing else, the Wild Wood clue is too obvious for their usual standard.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 06/01/2025 11:57

Paul Weller does have young kids though. A lot of people who do TMS say they did it for their kids to enjoy. Presumably kids love the costumes and the glitz of the performances as they wouldn't have a cat in hell's chance of guessing who the sometime stars of yesteryear were!
