Who was the woman on the train and what was the historical significance? Think I might have missed something due to a noisy child. Thanks

I don’t think you missed anything. I looked her up because I didn’t know who she was. She was Sylvia Trench, the first Bond girl. I found this article explaining it.

James Bond is canon in 'Doctor Who' now

Did you catch Steven Moffat's sly spy reference in "Joy to the World"?

What a bunch of arse it turned out to be.

MakeYourOwnMusicStartYourOwnDance · 26/12/2024 02:24

I really enjoyed it, thought it was great!
The having to wait and do the days in the right order and go the "long way round" reminded me of Matt Smith's Dr when he tried waiting and living normally with Amy and Rory for a bit.
The ending hit me in the feels in a lovely, Christmassy way.

Ah thank you. Knew they'd be something behind it. I quite enjoyed it particularly the end.

It certainly had all the feels, all the looks. All the elements of a great story. It's just a shame that the plot linking everything together was so lacking.

i was sad that Joy didn't get to be a fun character. was looking forward to her as I love the actor.

MadamePeriwinkle · 26/12/2024 12:45

I've just watched it, and tbh am on the fence about it being appropriate for Christmas Day viewing with all the references to Covid and not being able to see dying loved one.

My dad was at home on end of life care at that time, and it was a tough watch, it must have been incredibly painful for those who had the same experience as Joy...and not something to be reminded of any more than necessary I'd imagine.

JellyBeanFactory · 26/12/2024 17:55

Watched this afternoon and I've never cried before at Dr Who! Joy said it for all of us who lost someone to Covid and were unable to say goodbye (while others partied) because we stuck to the rules. This few lines hit me. Hard.

Fabulous writing and acting.

Normally I find the Christmas ones disappointing but this was really good. I liked that it was political.

MissTrip82 · 26/12/2024 21:18

I loved ncuti but thought the plot was weak.

I was a bit triggered by the reference to saying goodbye on an iPad too. I work in an ICU and held the iPad.

Twonewcats · 28/12/2024 09:20

I didnt understand who she was either.
I thought the episode was lovely - and I loved the idea of the time hotel, and THAT door

Florence19791 · 28/12/2024 14:55

I couldn’t watch it. I lost my mum and it totally broke me. Hopefully I’ll try and watch it again soon now I’m more prepared and won’t get blindsided

PoliteNewt · 29/12/2024 22:35

Could have done with a warning about the covid remote goodbye , especially the reference to having let mum down by not being there. I’m still living with that.
