I'm watching too! It's lovely, like a warm hug 🤗

Houseplanter · 23/12/2024 21:34

Lovely weather in Yorkshire in December...

I enjoyed this episode. Favourite storyline was the pigeons.

Houseplanter · 23/12/2024 22:34

Some fabulous acting and good storylines but missed the feel good Christmas vibe.

It's wonderful 😊

Tupperwarefan · 23/12/2024 22:44

Oh I loved that!

Tigresswoods · 23/12/2024 22:45

Felt a bit like a budget episode...

TinselQueen · 23/12/2024 22:58

Enjoyed it but there was something missing .

Tigresswoods · 24/12/2024 07:37

Agree @TinselQueen

Previous Christmas specials were a bit more community focussed. Maybe it was the right thing given the time. No goose on Christmas Day 1941 so a bit of a quieter Christmas special too.

Look forward to the new series though. Love the characters.

Just rewatched series 1 Xmas special. Brilliant compared to last night's effort. So much better when they stuck to the original stories (with the odd tweak).

Still lovely feel good TV.

However, after enjoying Mrs Hall's emotional moment when she heard from Edward, we got a sinking feeling (pardon the pun) and googled the dates for the Japanese invasion of Singapore.

Well, if Edward is still in hospital there by February I don't rate his chances. Apparently the Japanese killed all but a handful of the people in the military hospital. Even if he survived that and got taken prisoner, it's not a great outlook.

I thought that! What a shame as I have loved this series but just seemed so silly to have filmed a Christmas special in glorious sunshine with blue skies, green trees not even an autumnal feel to it let alone winter.

Yes a few flakes of snow at the closing scene but seriously All Creatures Great And Small makers attention to detail such as seasons please!

Such a heartwarming programme though, has eclipsed Call The Midwife for me.

Gloriia · 24/12/2024 19:46

As an aside I do hope Mrs Pumphrey and Tricki woo aren't in every episode in series 6. More of Helen's dad and sister though, I do like those 2.

Yes. I got the significance of Singapore. It's not looking good for Edward.

It was a good wartime drama, it gave a strong sense of the impact of war.
It was a shame that James was relegated to a bit part, though, as if they couldn't find anything for him to do.
Good acting from the Farnons and Mrs Hall.

BeatrizBoniface · 25/12/2024 08:33

I understand some of the survivors left Singapore by hospital ship and arrived in Colombo, I hope the writers put Edward in that group.

Can’t find this on 5?

NewNameNumber43 · 25/12/2024 19:36

DM managed to talk through most of it… what happened to the fox in the end? 🦊

mikado1 · 25/12/2024 19:38

So disappointed that I can't watch it anymore here in Ireland as it moved to C5 after maybe S1 or 2.. 😗

Enjoyed it, better than the other Christmas specials I watched this week. Funny to see Helen's dad insisting Jimmy would be a farmer! In real life he became a vet like his dad.

BadgersGalore · 01/01/2025 11:21

I have reminded the end several times to try to see what they had for Christmas dinner in the end - was it tripe? Envy

A lovely cosy, moving episode. Made me think about my Nan's much loved nephew who was lost at sea in WWII.
