Aitch

You are approaching this from a far too intellectual level, it was rubbish, but it was good rubbish and there in hangs the difference.

I would rather watch that as opposed to Strictly come brain dead, Search for a wage slave or any of the other rubbish that passes for tv these days.

AitchTwoCiao · 01/05/2008 22:14

no i amn't. it wasn't good cotton wool. new tricks is, that wasn't. it's got nothing to do with intellect and everything to do with ideas.

AitchTwoCiao · 01/05/2008 22:17

because there will have been good ideas, fresh ones that the commissioners will have nixed because they're on safer ground with the guy from buffy and warren clarke. which is a disgrace, imo.

BreevandercampLGJ · 01/05/2008 22:17

Ah sorry too serious for me.

It was good rubbish.

bossybritches · 01/05/2008 22:45

Aitch it doesn't do to over-analyse these things!

Sorry YOU didn't like it - Kanga is right nice bit of escapism, I liked the relationship between Anthony Head & Jenny Agutter( phew they sizzled!!! ) Laughed out loud at a couple of points & thought it quite poignant in others.

Considering I haven't watched any TV for months it's enough to drag me away from MN & discussions about Bottom Butter it obviously has something going for it!!!

AitchTwoCiao · 01/05/2008 22:59

imo it doesn't do to accept any old crap on tv as being good just because the flickering distracted you. that's my opinion. i think you're all under-analysing it, as it happens. those are hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of licence fee money that should have been spent on something better. not something more intellectual, i'm really not saying that although you all seem to be jumping to that conclusion. just something built on a better idea.

bossybritches · 01/05/2008 23:23

Ok fine you have made your point.

You didn't like it!

Why bring down a thread that was merely lighthearted gossip about a lighthearted piece of entertainment.??

Far too late at night to be having discussions about the use of the BBC budget IMHO.

Night all

YouHaventSeenMe · 01/05/2008 23:28

BossyBritches..... we are saving some poor formula feeding parent from getting it in the neck.

AitchTwoCiao · 02/05/2008 00:03

who me? i ff dd. and i didn't realise rules had been set for the thread btw, looked to me like a thread to discuss a tv programme, not to lionise it.

bossybritches · 02/05/2008 07:13

lol YHSM, quite probably!!!

sigh Aitch no-one sets any rules as we both well know but neither do all threads have to end up as full -bloodied discussions. Sometimes it's nice just to have a bit of a natter about TV/whatever & see what people thought without getting serious.

I love a good debate & on MN I can always (usually)find one IF I'm in the mood -last night was (correct me if I'm wrong Kanga) a casual chat which you seemed to be determined to turn into a debate, which is a shame & I was merely disagreeing.

turquoise · 02/05/2008 07:49

Totally agree with Aitch, it was shite.

God forbid there should be a debate on mn these days, or anything passing for intelligent conversation.

AitchTwoCiao · 02/05/2008 09:48

ffs, i wasn't determined to do anything at all, i just didn't agree with you. but rather than say 'oh really? i thought blah blah blah' you all jumped to this odd anti-intellectual stance and made it personal about me rather than Just Discussed The Telly Programme.
agree with turquoise, god forbid anyone should try to have anything other than a cotton wool brain on MN these days... in future might i suggest posting in the OP that no dissent will be tolerated, that would make things much clearer.

AitchTwoCiao · 02/05/2008 10:51

and as for "hmmBossyBritches..... we are saving some poor formula feeding parent from getting it in the neck. grin" and "lol YHSM, quite probably!!!", i am genuinely offended.

great that you're enjoying being bitchy about a fellow MNer, but as i pointed out (and you ignored because you were LOLing so hard so why let the truth get in the way of a good snidey comment?) i actually ff dd.

so, did you hear that over the sound of your televisions? I FF DD. so i'm hardly going to be giving out to fellow ffing mums, am i, and an apology for that little burst of bitchiness would be appreciated.

Joash · 02/05/2008 11:00

Didn't see it - but just wanted to say Anthony Head is a lovely bloke. Met him when we were stuck on a train just outside Birmingham a couple of years ago. We got chatting in the (very long) queue for the loo and when I got back to the seat he had bought me a coffee. I don't actually drink coffee, but drank it anyway and we chatted for about three hours.

JonesTheSteam · 02/05/2008 13:45

Joash - am so jealous!!!

Anthony Head is welcome to come around and crack my safe anytime!!!!

Enjoyable hokum - not complete pants and not brilliant either, but has promise I feel.

bossybritches · 02/05/2008 20:48

Hang on just re-reading thread to make QUITE sure I have my facts straight......

bossybritches · 02/05/2008 20:56

Ok I can see you may have thought the remark was made at you but it wasn't intended as such Aitch so calm down.

If you actually re-read YOU were the one who first got serious (as Bree noted "it was rubbish, but it was good rubbish" )& then said we were all wrong .You are entitled to your opinion so are we so lets do like we always tell the kids & agree to differ.

It's Friday night & I have wine open so cheers!!

RTKanga started off as a good thread thanks... sorry to hijack it- lets see how next weeks episode pans out!!

AitchTwoCiao · 03/05/2008 12:55

mmm, nice apology, 'so calm down'. is that how you tell your kids to say sorry too?

i've seen the second episode as well as it happens, and it's even more shit than the first, hard as that may be to believe. and as far as i'm aware Kanga's OP simply directed people to watch it, there was no judgement placed in advance afaia. just be sure if you're 'discussing' next week's shit episode to make it clear in the OP that people are only allowed to speak of it in glowing terms, though, eh?

Saturn74 · 03/05/2008 12:59

This programme was such a massive disappointment.

Loads of acting talent wasted on a mediocre script.

It was like the spawn of 'Duty Free' and 'Shelley' - not a pretty sight.

DH loved it though.

AitchTwoCiao · 03/05/2008 12:59

actually, am looking at what you wrote. YHSM had only posted that one comment, so what was the 'lol, YHSM, quite probably!!!' referring to if not her comment about poor ffers getting it in the neck? am v curious.

AitchTwoCiao · 03/05/2008 13:01

oh i loved shelley, hc, it was great. actually i was only about 7 and had a crush on hywel bennett i couldn't really tell you if it was funny as such...
have you seen HB recently? lawks.

Saturn74 · 03/05/2008 13:07

Shelley
Was studying drama at nearby uni, and we always got sent to sit in the 'live' (I use the word advisedly!) audience as place fillers.
We sat amongst swathes of elderly ladies who thought Hywel was some sort of sex god.
Which he very well may have been, but evidence was in short supply.

AitchTwoCiao · 03/05/2008 13:18

i'd have been roaring if i was there...
