Has anyone seen this Irish Language film? I recorded it from Film 4 recently and just watched it. It was really good but I cried my eyes out at the end. I want there to be a Quiet Girl 2 where she moves in with them permanently!

Sorry you didn't get any responses OP. It's a great film but not new. It was nominated for the Oscars in 2022 so it was recognised. It was based on a Claire Keegan book so it had good material to start with.

There's s film out now called Small Things like These, which is by Claire Keegan, not seen it but read the book. My DD has seen it and read the book and says its v loyal to the book. Claire Keegan is an amazing author, her books are more 'novellas' than larger tomes. I hope you have fun discovering her.

I'll watch Small Things. I did an advanced search before posting to see if there had been older threads on it and nothing came up, but I just googled Mumsnet The Quiet Girl to find my own thread and other earlier threads on it came up!
It was so excellent but really upsetting at the end. Someone on one of the other threads said they are choosing to believe she ends up living with them, otherwise it's too sad, which I agree with. The little girl was such a good actor. They all were.
As it was set in 81 and she was 9 I'd have been one year older.
The story reminded me a bit of Goodnight Mister Tom and Heidi which she was reading with her "nice mum"

It's streaming on channel 4 if anyone wants to watch it. I'd been waiting to see it since it came out

Oh my goodness I loved this it's so beautiful and understated. I loved the book foster which it's based on.
I had an upbringing like this so I really resonated with me

Watched this tonight, loved it, the little girl was amazing. I read the Foster book years ago.

I've read Small things like these too, looking forward to seeing the film.

My DD and I watched it 2 days ago.
Beautiful, harsh, simple, understated writing, acting and film- making.
The last scene, oh my goodness.
