Why is she a ringer?

Because she’s previously been a professional dancer.

NetZeroZealot · 08/12/2024 20:05

Thank you. But some of the others must also have had dance training- JB is in a boy band, he must have had training?

I think I read that Sarah has had training. She's been in musicals. Chris is the only genuinely novice dancer left.

PositivityVibes · 08/12/2024 20:06

I watched last night & voted for Chris, Sarah & JB.

JB has totally grown with Lauren, she should always have a celeb partner, didn't really connect with him and Amy but with Lauren he's up there, hence my vote!

I was hoping for a Pete/Tasha dance off, love Pete's journey but he shouldn't be in the final. Tasha, I really want to like but I can't get past the dance experience, yes, Sarah has too but she's in her 50s which has to make it harder.

I'm happy for any of my top 3 to win Glitterball

Aljaz used to be the Vito of the show - the energy of a Labrador puppy. That seems to have gone from him, what's happened?

He left the show & became a dad and is also a few years older than Vito so he doesn't have to have the energy of a Labrador puppy any more.

Oh and Vito is there so he can be the new Labrador puppy of the Pro dancers 😆

dapsnotplimsolls · 08/12/2024 20:09

Chris or JB for the win for me. I feel sorry for Amy, she probably can't help wondering if JB would have got this far with her.

NetZeroZealot · 08/12/2024 20:09

Why do the producers allow someone on whose got professional experience then?

You’re not allowed to say that on MN. He’s an absolute ringer 😆

£75k...?

Good point

FagsMagsandBags · 08/12/2024 20:10

My friend had a dog we used to call a ringer. He looked like a golden retriever on top with the legs and length of a Corgi. That could well have been his mix as he was from Wales. Jake. He was a sweetheart.

Viewers don't want to watch an hour and a half of mediocre/rubbish dancers for the first few weeks??

Well, he's been put through his paces this series and looked knackered/out of breath for some of the routines. His enthusiastic "Get in!" came over as insincere/OTT so if Janette's on MN or someone he knows, they'll have advised to rein it in. And the last person likened to a puppy - Graz - ended up being a tosser.
Aljaz is a safe pair of hands but was best in his first series when he was likened to a brooding Frankenstein! Grin
His Vito-type shtick became annoying, especially in his last series with Sara. He's now stuck in what happens to him next - is he going to be benched in favour of Kai/Jojo, replace Graz permanently or go back to an older statesman/Tony Beak role (which he rejected to go and do film but then left on cutting room floor). Maybe he's had more verve on It Takes Two (I stopped watching when Rylan left).

dapsnotplimsolls · 08/12/2024 20:13

I think we need a petition to get Kai and Lauren back with celebrities next year!

Being in a boy band doesn't make him a professional dancer.

Look at his earlier performances and they're just okay. Not ringer standard imo.

It's his background in music that gives him natural rhythm. He can "feel" the music.

Oh behave. He has a distinct advantage but it’s not important apparently 😂

We shall disagree. I know you don't like him. That's fine.

A 26 year old trained professional dancer shouldn't be on it, imo. Ok if they're a bit older or if it was in the past or in the context of drama training, but when that's been your job and you're still young? Nope..

EvilRingahBitch · 08/12/2024 20:16

There's been a ringer in the final most years. Sometimes the audience decides not to care and they win, most years they do three excellent dances, get obliterated in the public vote by a plucky journey contestant and then walk away with a sizeable cheque, a huge boost in public profile and a booking to play Roxie Hart in the West End/Prince Charming in panto in Chelmsford.

It's the way of these things. And remember that just because you're not the majority choice to win Strictly doesn't mean that people dislike you as a person. I'm probably going to vote for Chris in the final but I'd happily watch Tasha dancing in a show, and she seems lovely.

MagdaLenor · 08/12/2024 20:18

Tasha seems like a really lovely person, it's really not about her, it's that people will vote for the less experienced/newbie/ older person.

dapsnotplimsolls · 08/12/2024 20:18

I don't mind ringers. As long as they don't win.

Same here!

NetZeroZealot · 08/12/2024 20:20

All very interesting. How do the public all know she’s a ringer ( hence not voting for her ) and I don’t (but I don’t vote anyway)?

Someone said it on one of these threads.

A laugh here, I misheard Tess - ‘novice’ for ‘knobhead’

dS thought she said absolute rubbish, not absolute novice.

FagsMagsandBags · 08/12/2024 20:25

My take on ringers is that there are ringers and then there are Ringers with a capital Rrrrr. Last year was the first time where it felt that they were taking the absolute piss by having Layton as a contestant and it'll take a lot to out ringer him. Tasha is close to Layton but he was the ringiest ringer of all time.

Then there are people who've had some dance training or a lot of dance training but they're older and they last worked as a dancer years ago, so Sarah and Debbie McGee.

Looking up Danny Mac I see that he got some training at RADA and has a degree in acting as well. I'm surprised. Anyway, he was ringing but I don't see any dance training in his past but he had worked in two musicals, Les Mis and Wicked. He was my dream ringer, not so ringy that it was cross making, ringy enough that he was an absolute joy to watch.

I'm hoping that next year they hold back on obvious ringers. It's not fair on the ringer because at some point they'll feel as though they're deeply unpopular when all that's wrong is the public don't like obvious ringers. They won't win but they will almost certainly be in the final and that can leave some real "What ifs". This year for example I'd have loved to have seen Montell in the final but whether she went last week or this week it wasn't going to happen, partly because there's a ringer in the house. People who wanted Pete in the final could say similar but I'd argue - although not vociferously - that Montell was a true beginner who really learned how to dance well. But water under the bridge. Etc

There are arguments in favour of ringers. Some say that without them it could be a bit clod hoppery, but that doesn't really sit with me because you can have a technically excellent dancer who does nothing for you and throughout most of the show for a lot of people that's been Tasha. She's pretty, has lovely movement, a beautiful body and I think she's probably a really nice person but she's also bland and so is her dancing. To be fair I don't think she's been helped by Aljaz who has been quite poor this season and I really wish he'd stayed away and not sullied my love for him as a sweet chap and a lovely dancer.

In short, I type far too many words to say very little indeed. Discuss. Please don't discuss!

MagdaLenor · 08/12/2024 20:26

@FagsMagsandBags I agree with all of your points! That's exactly how I feel 👍
