Did anyone see this? What did we all think?
I was completely obsessed with the social dynamics of the day in the studio, and also by how the singers shaped the music.
Highlights for me were an extremely humble George Michael changing a note and transforming 'but say a prayer', and Phil Collins' frankly awesome drumming.
Low points were Boy George turning up and souring the atmosphere (basically claiming that everyone was pretending not to hate each other) and Bananarama/Jodie Whatley being totally left out.
Disclaimer: am aware that the song is currently considered problematic, but I think the Ethiopian famine footage shocked lots of people into wanting to help.
