Seems like we've been waiting ages for this but it'll finally be shown on BBC One on the 16th.

I don't think the book was as good as Troubled Blood or The Running Grave but I'm still looking forward to it. I wonder what they did with the numerous online chats that appear in it?

I find that with most tv adaptations tbh @HowYouSpellingThat10 i think you just have to treat them as two different things.
You are never going to get the full background, characters every little nuance in a tv show as you do in a book.

I've just finished the last episode; I thought it was very well done, for a book that on the face of it seemed like it would be impossible to adapt. So much of the book's key plot points play out in the chat room, but I think it was wise to jettison these elements, and the online stuff that did remain - the game etc - was well done.

Tbh even if it hadn't been very good, it would all have been worth it for that last scene where Strike is trying to talk to Ilsa about Robin in his hospital bed and starts tearing up 😍

I also enjoyed the IBH tv adaptation much more on 2nd viewing. I know the book too well and I had to shake off obsessing over all the differences/changes and then wait a while to go back for relaxed 2nd viewing.

I agree the tv shows are to be enjoyed in their own right. They do a good job of keeping the essence of each case and the development of strike & robins relationship, but there will always be lots left out/changed as the books are complex & detailed.

"21st century Dickens.."

I've never considered this before but I agree.
